There's a few hawks over here, but I've also been seeing more and more bald eagles flying over head. They look good flying, makes me nervous when they're watching from the wood line.

Do you mean 1"x2" welded wire? A mink or weasel could definitely get through 1"x2" openings. I've had one go through a 1" thick "vent". The only truly secure fencing is 1/2" x 1/2" or smaller hardware cloth and even that is only as strong as your weakest attachment point.

Oops, yes I mean 1x2 welded wire and yes, I know a weasel can go through that. That's why I'm worried to hear that we probably have them around here.

Welcome Kevin! You'll love it here. I'm sure Opa, RaZ and Pop-Pop will be glad to have another man in the group!

Hey RaZ, I sent you my chicken info, hope it helps and please let me know if there is anything else you need.

Hello All, Where does everybody get their DE from? I'm in the Grand Rapids area. I've heard of people ordering it over the internet, but was curious if there was any stores, etc. that carry it. Have seen some of you talk about Sevin also, is it the same as DE? I would like to use it on my dog, cats, and chickens and obviously not cause any risks to my children as well. Thank you in advance for any help on this.

howdy Andy, re: DE. Earth (DE) is the fossilized remains of microscopic one-celled phytoplankton that lived in huge freshwater lakes that once covered the western part of the US. It is used in runs, coops and on birds to deter lice, mites, etc.

Seven is a garden pesticide to kill pesky pests. You can use it on the ground or on your critter though some folks might disagree with that statement.

Tri County feed store in Montague, MI carries both. Seven Dust is found most every where that has a garden center.

I'm even happier that all of you hens haven't decided that I need to be culled. Yet.

Today I've got to build a plant stand so the that Hope's house plants, that have enjoyed being outside, can be brought inside. The forecast doesn't look condusive to their continued existance if left outside. Don't understand why we need so many but if they make her feel good then who am I to ask.

Eve, I meant to compliment you on your wyandotte picture. You definately should submit it to the calendar committee. It is a fantastic picture of some very beautiful birds.

Happy wife, Happy life.
But I bet you've known that longer than I've been walking.

Nova, I've probably have clothes that are older than you.

The sun is finally making an appearance and it's starting off to be a pleasant day. Granny's wind chimes are providing the background music for the morning rooster serenade. I've just about finished a pot of coffee and I have the making for a second pot ready to put on as soon as Hope or Granny are conscious.

Yesterday I had a BYCer from North Carolina email me for the plans for my 2 nest rollout box. When I sent them he immediately replied asking for my phone # and permission to call me. He had questions about modifing the plans as well as questions about chickens in general. We talked for quite a while and he certainly has an extreme case of chickenitis. He has built a really nice coop with a run underneath it but he also has what appears to be a 3' wide cover run encircling his entire large back yard. He has installed cameras at various locations so he came check on his birds without having to go outside. He can even access his cameras when he is away from home. Now that's what you'd call serious.
