That's a good question. My Roo (Bantam) is 24 wks. old and has know he's a Roo for quite some time although I do have a couple standard size gals that are/seem high ranking and don't take no BS from him. Seems to me he should be showing his manliness by now if not soon.

Oh my gosh....A Toddy. Grandma use to give us one when we were sicker than a door nail.......back then it was suppose to be the all time cure for the common cold to pneumonia !!lol She always called it a Hot Toddy because she warmed it a bit and had us sip it! Thank God I don't have drinking problem!! lol

LOL my stepmother made me a hot toddy once when I was suffering from pneumonia. I was in a catatonic state for pretty much the whole day. She even stuck a peppermint stick in it. I have no idea what was in it but I remember feeling as though I couldn't move and my brain function was near 0.

Sue, you can put your EE here for the confined winter months if you like. She will be with my wimpy d'uccle and some chicks so she should fair well. We can return her in the Spring and you could devide the coop at night but have her free range all Summer with the other 3. Over time they should become a foursome. Just offering if you need this so she won't get picked on during the months of confinement.

Theron, thank you but I took the path of least resistance and bought 2 Isa Brown Chicks today. I am not a very good chick person. I stress every time they peep. I was not good with babies either, I stressed over everything.

Olive - your mail box is full so I was unable to send a message.
I am wondering if I am wise to continue to be a chicken keeper because I am sensitive and so many parts of chicken keeping are really challenging for me.

Whoops! Sorry about that, but thanks for the heads up. I cleaned it out a bit so I should be able to receive messages again.

I have one lonesome turkey and I stress everytime I DONT hear him peep. I think I check on him like 30 times a day and he's my DH's turkey....to eventually eat. Here I am being an overprotective momma. You care and there is nothing wrong with that.

how do you get the chickens to leave the grass seed alone? I had to reseed my whole back yard last year. worked my but off pulling weeds. all I can say is at least it is green back there instead of the mud we had for 2yr.s we have had the yard re-graded to try to get the water to run down the hill instead of into the house. clay soil is a bear. we had 80yrds of topsoil brought in but I think there was clay in that too, it grows weeds better then grass........ there is no guarantee that your Cadbury will bond with a new pullet. hopefully once they are all the same size.they will all be one or two groups.

Ive journaled our deer season every year since 1999. My grandmother, Nonnie, liked to journal when she took road trips, she jotted down everything, the temperature, weather conditions, gas prices, what time they'd stop so she could have her Toddy. haha.
