I can't decide......Instead of my mother purchasing Christmas gifts for all her children, grand children & great grand children I talked her into contributing to Heifer International. Can't decide if we should just purchase some chicken flocks or do a combo type thing like a couple of flocks and a goat, some chickens & a pig? I'm leaning toward the flocks & a goat. What do you guys think?

Choose whichever makes you happy. The gifts are representative only. Just because you choose a flock of chickens doesn't mean someone is literally getting a flock of chickens with your money. You're just giving approximately the amount that the organizations uses to place a flock of chickens. Of course it might also be the same amount they use to send out promotional materials. Or pay their office light bill. Or their secretary's christmas bonus. So just do whatever makes you feel good. Set your budget and then buy whatever you like within that amount.

I really need to buy some lower heels. All I have in the closet are 3 1/2+ inchers and that was okay back when I wore them everyday to the office, but I don't anymore and now when I want or need to wear some I about kill myself trying to walk 5 feet. That or I need to start wearing them more often again. That just seems like too much work though.

Back to work for me. Everybody have a nice day!!

22 degrees out this morning......BRRRRRRRR....

Hope everyone has a great day....I did try to get on BYC forum yesterday afternoon and found it was "down". I went out for a walk yesterday (wearing bright red) since I was getting a little stir crazy (and it's only November:/ ). The brisk air and walk felt good and coming into a warm, snug house even better!

Cool here too, but no frost. Chickens came out of the coop like popcorn popping, squawking the whole time - I have been putting leftovers in the run before I let them out and they are so happy to find them. Still only about 4 eggs a day right now.

Msue, I am a big fan of Heifer International, they are a wonderful charity, and will use your money wisely (even secretaries at charities deserve a bonus)

frosty morning to all!

Any chariety worth a hoot will report in their materials/website what part of contributions they use for administrative costs. Usually between 5 and 10 percent.

Love the high heels story. My DD dressed as Morticia for Halloween this year. Hee!

The bad toed EE rooster is doing much better and no black spot developed. He has been on an antibiotic for about 6 days. I did witness the little Nankin roo giving chase to the Huge EE roo, who freaks out trying to climb the fencing to get away from the little guy. That is probably how he injured his foot. Go figure.

Water frozen solid here. I am not looking forward to winter. That's for sure.

I gave my small front lawn a last mow yesterday. Then I went in the backyard and mulched the leaves that had fallen since I last mowed back there until the gas ran out. As I was putting the mower in the garage for "the last time this year" I noticed a missed a whole swatch of the front.

I was excited to see that my rooster has climbed another rung up the pecking order ladder this morning. He has now won over both BOs and only has Amy the RIR to content with. Bedtime will be easier when he becomes the flock master and the hens stop blocking his path to the coop and picking on him. I'm tired of climbing up to the coop roof to get him down when he decides it too much hassle to try and get inside to roost.

All the disease talk must have gotten me paranoid. I was hand feeding treats and noticed yellow crusty stuff around Neil's nostril. Oh, no! He has a runny nose! Then my daughter calmly said, "it's pumpkin". Why yes, yes, it is pumpkin. The nostril on the other side was perfectly clear and once I picked off the crust, this side has stayed clear, as well. Now back to worrying about winter.

For me it was nothing but stilletos at work. That was back in the day at GM when Executive Assistants (glorified secretaries) had to look like models all the time. I remember days when I got home and took the shoes off and had to walk around on my toes because of the muscle cramps in my arches when I took them off. Many years and shoes later I had to have foot surgery that was directly related to wearing high heels. It about killed me to get rid of 40 pairs of shoes that matched every outfit. The things we thought were important when we were young.
