No snow here, just nice blue skies. I discovered most of the chickens free ranging when I hadn't let them out. My son didn't close the small coop door properly and it blew open. The chickens went from the big coop to the run through the small coop out to the yard. Smart birds! My button quail arrived at 7:30 this morning. We are in a small area and I know the postal ladies well. When I got there they told me "We think it's bad, there is no peeping." I assured them had there been peeping it would have been strange since they don't peep. Everyone was fine and settled in nicely, however I will have to clean cages again this afternoon. In their excitement both waterers were knocked over so all the bedding is wet. I'm waiting till they settle a bit more to try and clean again.

When I got up this morning everything was white. Didn't get much and it's all melted already and sun is out. First snow for the chickens and they stopped at the door and took a good look before stepping into it. What they really couldn't figure out was how all their free-range space is now a lake!

RaZ - What's a guy like you doing living in the city anyway??? You would be so much happier on a 100 acre farm. With a gorgeous single neighbor!
RBahmer - Welcome! So glad to have you with us!!

I'm going to try a heated dog dish for their water and keeping it out in the run with the food. If the dog dish gets too dirty I'll get a heated base to go under the 5 gal. metal waterer. Trying the dog dish first because it's much cheaper than the base. My builder built me a great 3 ft. long feeder that I'm going to set up on blocks in the run. I currently have a hanging metal feeder but it's not big enough to accomodate everyone at the same time and that's how they always want to eat, all at once.

Welcome RBahmer!

My high school used to play yours in the old days when MapleValley was Vermontville! I don't think Maple Valley plays Olivet anymore. I know you will find BYC as a valuable resource with your chicken raising. The Michigan thread is quite chatty!

I'm just now doing my online shopping for Christmas. I missed cyber Monday......

DITTO THAT. Silly birds! What's a little white, fluffy stuff?

We got about 4" - I was shocked when I woke up this morning, and it was a bit of a haul into work!

WELCOME, RBahmer! Glad you found the Michigan thread!

Good afternoon, Linda!! It's okay if your gift is a bit late since you missed Cyber Monday!

So I didn't get the best pics since Twix (her registered name is Apple Tree Acres Twix, a sweet candy theme for sweet goats!) was super interested in hay, but here she is! And OMG she is such a sweetheart! She has a perfect pattern of a butterfly on her back which I should have taken a good picture of since it is very cool. And she looked great! Hooves well tended, normal teats, alert and curious (curious for treats, that is!), and her fur, so luxurious and silky! Definitely has a thick winter coat.

Attention? Hay time first!

Haha, yea, she looks silly since she was chewing, but yay for a face picture!

I had a great time just talking with the breeder too! While she was showing me the sire, one of her boer bucks came up for some goatie scritches. 'tis true, scratching a goat right behind the horns = pure goat bliss. Both her boar bucks were massive, impressive boys! And the blue eyed boy that Twix is going to have a date with next heat is quite a looker! I forgot to take a picture of him, but he has completely chestnut fur, which really brings out his eyes!
