In dealing with the public for a living I found that some are just not people persons. If that makes sense. They are reserved, don't really talk unless talked to and don't start random conversations unless they feel comfortable with the other person and then the conversation is of their interest. I have a client who is an Accountant, highly intelligent, well respected and has a well established business. He's got a dry sense of humor, is on the quiet side but knows his job well inside & out. Doesn't the saying go.....Different strokes for different folks.

Well you didn't want a rooster...

I wouldn't have minded a rooster, but I'm sure my neighbor would have crowed even louder.

ya know, that may be the reason the people who told me about him didn't like him.... Some people do not understand security of flocks. I see his ads all the time, but had been hesitant because of what I heard about his personality. No one would disagree about his quality for birds tho. I just don't like to deal with people who rub me wrong... I was worried he would... I am a dorkette. I say stupid things all the time. Some people get me in person... A lot don't. But, since I now have more opinions...

I have four chicks in the incubator! All is not well however. I didn't know their hatch date so I still had them in the turner. I came home to one out and one almost out. I quickly removed the turner and tried to up the humidity but one seems fluid filled and is regurgitating liquid. That means humidity is too high, doesn't it? Because these chicks were so close t hatch when they were abandoned and so cold then I popped them in to the incubator I wonder if condensation formed inside the egg. They hatched out almost dry. One is giant sized compared to the others. I guess tomorrow will bring more news.

I know there were some asking about coops recently. There was an ad posted on GR CL Farm and Garden about an hour ago. It is for an 8 X 10 shed. With a couple windows and vents it might make a nice coop for someone.

I am not good with computers, I tried several times to copy and paste the entire ad but couldn't get it to work. Sorry

well, still have four!
Im not going to hold too much hope for the little first one that hatched. I dont understand the liquid it keeps regurgitating, poor little thing. It peeps loud and runs around, but then all this fluid comes up. Its crop looked full? after it hatched, not so much now. I stuck it in a flat bottom bowl in the incubator, with paper towels. So, it is confined, and keeps its head up when sleeping. The other three are big babies, and they are dried and ready to come out of the incubator- but I don't have a brooder set up. I wasnt prepared for this today.

I will set them up in their brooder before I go to work, and hope for the best.

Anyone know genetics?
I have two silkies, a sizzle, a frizzle and the silkie/cochin hen that I got from Keyt- the rooster was a turken. All the babies have the light skin, naked necks- except two have darker skin. All have four toes. So, why dont the two have five toes like the silkies? It doesnt matter, but I am curious.

I pretty much stay on MI thread. Funy thing is, when BYC only had 600 people on it, it was alot like this thread. You knew alot about the folks posting, their interest, quirks, chickens and other animals they had. I miss the " good ole days" but loved to see more people join up.

Good Luck with the baby chicks....especially the first one, maybe all will work it self out.....Fingers crossed!
