Good Morning!

Mom2 - Great news on the babies. :: waits for pictures ::

Chicwannab - Be careful with charging dogs. My rescue hurt me pretty bad one day and I had to nip that habit in the bud very quickly. They get so excited to go outside they just don't even see you anymore.

Now that I've had my morning breakfast and coffee I guess it's time to do my chicken chores. It's so great not having to be at work.

OK, if I'm lucky enough to get a rooster and a hen out of the batch, but I don't think they'll be laying till summer at earliest.

How many eggs are you hatching now?

I have one dozen in, 9 are the Lemons, 2 are my own Barred Rocks, one is unknown but either a Lt Brahma or a RIR, all fertilized by Buff Chantecler. so they are half-breeds. Except the Lemons. I will TRY to vent sex them when they hatch, would you just like a couple of my chicks once they can go outside??

how long before my refugees realize they can go outside safely again with out being rooster mobbed? They still hide when Mr fluff comes around, but he isn't threatening to them. Even his hen Buffy runs away... I guess I will just have to catch em and throw them in the big coop tonight. Poor chickens...

Thanks so much for the card. It was perfect!! I loved it!! I am getting around pretty good. I ditched the crutches Saturdday and used my cane for a day. I am allowed to put weight on my heel and the inside of my foot so that helps. Tomorrow I go get the stitches out and hope that the DR does not fuss at me too much. I have to much to do to stay off my feet for long.
We got the camper coop finished enought to move the Barred Rocks into it last night. Still have to install the pop door and a couple of other small things. I will get pics later. I think I have another 10 pages to catch up on this thread again

The neighbor's dogs have been around all week. Annoying but the birds were in their yard and I scared them off. Today I come home to find it running around their pen. It didn't get in but I'm sure everyone was upset. So here's the question. Michigan law says "any person.... may kill any dog which he sees in the act of pursuing, worrying, or wounding any livestock or poultry....and there shall be no liability on such person..." They have definitions for most words but don't define worrying. What would you say worrying is? Running around their yard barking? I did talk to the state police and they were helpful. I think I will call the neighbor and ask would they rather I call the cops each time so they get a ticket or shoot their dog, let them decide on consequences. Not sure how that will go over, but I printed out a copy of the law to give them. I hate to be the grumpy neighbor but just keep the dogs away from my chickens!

So when is hatch day? Do you find yourself checking the incubator like a gazillion times a day?

take pictures....I find that many owners believe thier dogs can do no wrong. A couple pictures along with a highlighted copy of the law might make them do something without having to get law inforcement involved.

When I saw that card... I knew it would put a big smile on your face. Couldn't be any more perfect for a chicken buddy!

Glad you're doing good. Hope you have a good Drs appt.
Been busy that last couple of days getting ready for Christmas Eve. That's when the family is coming over. Lots of manicotti to make and more fried cakes. Still need to finish up on the wrapping.
Even tho it's cold out, there is no wind, so not so bad. Took the dogs for a walk in the fields out back. Didn't get shot by a hunter, so that's good. Had to chase Krisrose's turkeys back in her yard that escaped. So, enough exercise for me! Have a good day all....
