Chicken snobs! They crab on and on about how the hatchery birds arnt SQ.
I pretty much stay on MI thread. Funy thing is, when BYC only had 600 people on it, it was alot like this thread. You knew alot about the folks posting, their interest, quirks, chickens and other animals they had. I miss the " good ole days" but loved to see more people join up.

I typically just stay on this thread too. I have had people treat me quite badly when I ask questions on how to do something. No one likes being treated like they are stupid.

Does anyone near Grand Rapids need firewood? I have a big pile.

I also have a heated dog water dish for the coop that has not been used in 2 years (so no germs).

I have a coop fan and an extra brooder light and extra heat lamp if anyone would like those things.

Just send me a p.m. Thanks!

Edit - you know what I find hard about other areas of BYC? I find it hard when someone has a bird that is suffering and instead of getting it some veterinary help or culling it, they let it suffer. I wish we could help them with their chicken but sometimes you need to be in person and see it and also sometimes you need a lab test or two to tell you what is going on!

I have one dozen in, 9 are the Lemons, 2 are my own Barred Rocks, one is unknown but either a Lt Brahma or a RIR, all fertilized by Buff Chantecler. so they are half-breeds. Except the Lemons. I will TRY to vent sex them when they hatch, would you just like a couple of my chicks once they can go outside??

So when is hatch day? Do you find yourself checking the incubator like a gazillion times a day?

oh yes, I think I spent the first 24 hours upstairs just monitoring the thing. Never went to bed that night.

Hello Morgan, I'm nearby Saginaw, have gotten a few of mine as already laying hens, seen ads of people giving chickens away as far as Flushing and drove to get them. I'm pretty happy with my mixed flock of 13. 4 RIRs, 2 BRs, 2 buff Chanteclers, 2 Lt Brahmas, 1 Jersey Giant roo, and 2 BSLs. I have my first batch of mostly Lemon Orpingtons in the bator now.

oh i have had SUCH bad luck these last two attempts... my first show flock ended up breaking one of thier heat lamps and trampled eachother for the other or froze on one of the Harshest winter nights MI could give last winter... and this spring i had about 50 young ones and someone Stole, they came through took all my meat birds First. to include the turkeys and about a week later came BACK and stole all my banties!!!! Both times i was Devostated and wanted to give up chickens... but i think im ready now to battle out the thiefs and have prepped my coop.

so HOPEFULLY 3rd times a charm
