leehaha, minks are a type of weasel, and they kill the same way as other weasels.

Here are some eggs from yesterday - the huge one on top and the brown one on the right are from 2 sister Delawares that have only been laying a short time. The brown one in the front is a large egg from a welsummer, and the blue one from one of my lavender Am banties (not broody

And this is what that huge egg had in it when I had it for breakfast this morning, what a treasure!

Msue, beautiful chickens.

babigyrl, I am more than a bit jealous of your gift. Seems like I need to get a new mixer every year

I like the darkness of the welsummer egg. Is that a typical color for them? I have been looking at marans for possible dark eggs so far.

I have an old bucket ice cream maker, but so far have not attempted it..... I do have several recipes designed by ben and jerry's for an issue of "cuisine at home" magazine, if you're interested... there was vanilla, rasberry crunch, and chocolate turtle. I LOVE that magazine, i like it more than cook's illustrated. All the recipes i have tried from them have worked out the first time, and each recipe is loaded with pics so there's lots of inspiration!
If someone's REALLY trying to use up eggs, i also have a recipe for a 6-yolk cake! turns out kinda like the little cakes you buy at the store for strawberry shortcake. That one comes from a 50's betty crocker. i did that one in my skilllet and it turned out great! I made a super shortcake and used the whites for a meringue; was heck trying to get it out of the pan, but soooo worth it.
* I wanted to add that there's no shortening/butter/oil in that recipe, so it's a stir and dump

Marans lay a darker egg, but it is solid, and chocolate to dark brown. The welsummer eggs vary from medium to dark terra cotta brown, often with dark speckles. They are really some of the most beautiful eggs I have seen. They are also very good layers, although recently have slowed a little, which I gather is not unusual for them in the winter.

The recipe I used was from Cook's Illustrated. I have their cookbook (it's really a doorstop....HUGE). I've never made a recipe from that book that didn't turn out fantastic. I've never heard of Cuisine at Home. Rasberry Crunch ice cream sounds delightful

Hillbilly - I lucked out on my mixer. I found it on craigslist for like $170 with the meat grinder attachment. The lady I bought it from only used it 3 times. What a steal! I've been crying about the ice cream attachment for a year. lol...and SantaDH got it for me! He's already put in his request for Butter Pecan Ice Cream. I found a recipe on Epicurious where you toast the pecans and them roll them in butter....sooo wrong. HAHA
