Do Orps and banties have to be a year old before they go broody? My little cochin banty STILL hasn't laid an egg for me. No crowing, has a girl saddle.... so crossing my fingers. So curious what it'll look like! I have never seen a speckled Orpington egg like the one in the last picture! Still puzzling it. was that a banty, or a biggun? (May need at least one other banty to keep poor Rose company as she's the only little one)

Grammi - I often wondered if you were still in Michigan since you were the first one! And you are way up north.

Here is the project I have been working on for the past month and a half. I am entering it in a quilt contest. It isn't quilted yet but all the hand sewing is done. I still have to decided on a border. I'm not happy with the proportions or how hard it is to see the eyes. The big question for all you chicken folks is can you tell what breed of chicken each is? These are all my own chickens. When I drew up the patterns my son was able to tell me which each was. I also have to decide which 2 to have a close up picture of.

Good evening everyone...just popping in see what's going on. It was sunny & quiet here also this morning, a really beautiful day. I had 12 escapees this morning. I went to feed, water & collect my morning eggs as usual. I went into the coop, opened the door to run and the girls & Dusty exited as usual. When I was gathering eggs I felt like someone was watching me. I turn around and there were 4 chickens standing on the steps at the door looking in at me

and rest were grazing in the sun. I forgot to lock the pen door after I fed & watered. I did sleep in but must of still been tired from all the festivities the past few days. They did enjoy their freedom even though it was breif. I let them out extra early this afternoon to make up for putting them back in the pen this morning. I took a few pics while it was nice out and I'll post them later.

Question: My chickens are 8 1/2 months old. They did the juvenile molt this summer. Will they molt now in the winter? I'm seeing some feathers in the coop the past couple of days.
