Set my alarm for 5am so I can go fishing, but I woke at 3 and couldn't get back to sleep. I guess I might as well put the coffee on. Anyone else up and ready for a cup?

I don't remember what Christmas was like in 1986 but I do remember my Grandma died that spring and we were at her house for Christmas in 1985 and it was beautiful outside. Didn't even need coats that Christmas. 1992 I don't remember. The only reason I remember 1985 is because of Grandmas passing in 1986.

I remember that Christmas/Year....it was so warm out we took family pics outside @ my grandparents farm and we had the doors & windows cracked open in the house because grandpa let the coal furnace get out of control! lol

I dont know the exact year but I was living in AZ (in the 80's) when my mother told me that there was no snow for most of winter. lol I was ticked.

Good Morning ALL!~

Share the coffee Sam! I am out of it here...its should be a sin. Got myself a caffeine headache. Or lack, thereof.
Keyt!
It STINKS to have a single chick. Sorry about that. Give it a mirror and a feather duster.
I wouldn't put it with a hen, liable to peck it hurt it or kill it.

I was just outside feeding and watering- and watched one of the fruit loops (polish) keep pecking at the brown chick- they were at the waterer with Mama. Normally Mama doesnt let anyone near them, but she was distracted by the new=no wood chips-in-it waterer. All the chicks and chickens were around the waterer. The one fruit loop would peck the brown chick to make it move out of the way. Bravest thing my Polish would ever do. Do chickens see in color? The rest of the chicks are white and black. This one is brown and black.

This weather is FABULOUS!!!! I am very very happy with it, but I keep waiting for "the other shoe to drop"...it is, Michigan, after all. It was between 87 and 90 that I lived in Chattanooga. I remember calling my mom when I was laying out in the sun at the end of February...laughing. She couldnt understand it, because we were buried under snow here in Michigan..I keep thinking it is going to get here, and then not leave for months and months. It couldn't stay mild ALL winter, could it? The high today is 50...yay us!

I must go get ready for work now. You all have a wonderful day!

As for chickens seeing in color......I believe they do, That is why they make the watering bases red and we put a red light in the brooder ( to camouflage the site of blood-red).

Have to work today...full schedule and then a few hours at the barn later.

Good day to everyone.

Jim, I have the same problem with basement and barn. Kids keep bringing more stuff up to keep in the barn.
Coffee sounds god Sam. ...Good morning all, gotta go to work now. Keyte, I have a mama that babied her single chick for 4 months. Your mama sounds the same. Some hens just like being mama's. you could try it and keep a close eye

well, I suppose that makes sense. Think my fruit loop was just singling out the one thats "not like the others" then. hm.

ETA-

Keyt, if you try it, make sure the baby accepts the hen. I tried to put babies under a mama hen once and they had no idea she was supposed to be the mama- and they ran and scattered from her instead of running UNDER her.

As far as bat houses go, I did some research on them, and got some plans to build bat houses from MSU, and the recommended place to put a bat house is on the east side of a tree, house, barn what ever, and as Raz said, at least 12ft off the ground. Just like in Field of Dreams, if you build it, they will come. Just takes time.

Back in December I had only one hatch out of 31 and he is doing just fine. I do have some eggs that are suppose to hatch tomorrow and Sunday. If they hatch I will give you a couple. I'm not far from you. My daughter lives in E.R. I'm out by Duck Lake.

Beautiful birds, teeville. The roosters are stunning.
Looks to be a beautiful day. Hope you get to enjoy it. I'm going to take the dogs for a long walk again. Did it yesterday and we all had lots of fun. Chickens are aching to get out to free range. Take care......
