Michigan's ag industry is anything but dwindling. It generates billions annually and is arguably our strongest and most stable industry. GM crops have been in production here for decades and have not changed that.

What is a GM crop? This is a hot topic since I retuned to the Mainland but I really have no idea what the controversy is about.

Opa and Snowflake - my teens have complained that they have had to do too much - cooking, cleaning, laundry, yard work, trash duty. I try to get them involved in learning everything. Your comments encouraged me to keep them working and learning!

Taprock - I pray that Spectrum can keep your injured neighbors comfortable and help them heal. Burns are so painful. I feel so sorry for those folks. Please let us know if there is anyway we can all pitch in to help them as time goes on.

LAST CHANCE - LAST CHANCE- I have some heat lamps, clear and red bulbs, a large rabbit cage that was used as a brooder, a brooder lamp, a couple cages that are open bottom for free ranging chicks.

I don't mean to be lazy but what is wrong with genetically modifying something? Yes, I will get on google and start looking this up.........just haven't wanted to do the research.

Olive, i wasn't knocking our ag industry in particular. It's probably the best thing going for us right now. Unfortunately, for some reason when i go to the store i see produce mostly from other states. So that means one of the few Mi product in my store will probably not get my business.

And the Frankenfoods get even worse... I received this e-mail today.

The FDA is on the brink of approving genetically engineered salmon for human consumption. This would be the first genetically engineered animal on supermarket shelves in the United States.
The salmon is engineered to produce growth hormones year-round that cause the fish to grow at twice the normal rate. The government already requires labels to tell us if fish is wild-caught or farm-raised—don't we also have a right to know if our salmon is genetically engineered? Without labels, we'll never know.
More than forty countries, including Russia and China, already require labels on genetically engineered foods. As Americans, we firmly believe that we deserve the same right to know what we are eating.
That's why I created a petition to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on SignOn.org, which says:
Commissioner Hamburg, we urge the FDA to require the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. We have a right to know about the food we eat and what we feed our families, but under current FDA regulations, we don't have that ability when it comes to genetically engineered foods.
Polls show that more than 90% of Americans support mandatory labeling. Such near-unanimity in public opinion is rare. Please listen to the American public and mandate labeling of genetically engineered foods.
