Fuzzy - please come to M.S.U. with us next Tuesday! I would like to hear what the vets there have to say about managing the health of our back yard flocks and I would love it if you were there also.
I just love chickens. I have only had 13 of them and I have doted on every one. The last hen I had was the sweetest thing ever. She was a little one and a half pound Belgium D'Uccle. She contracted chronic respiratory disease and it broke my heart. You can bet that we would have spent any money to save her. But we were told that not only would she never be completely well but she would be spreading the illness in the community if we kept her in our backyard. So I hugged her good bye and they put her down. I wanted to bury her under our tree but she had to be incinerated first. So I have her ashes and am waiting for Spring to bury her.
Anyway - I am for the chickens and the people who love them. But I am not for people who are thoughtless (none of you) about animal care or other farmers/poultry owners. We must take care of the animals and take care of each other.
Nova- Happy for you!
