DCM-

My daughter would love to do 4-H but I do not think there are any areas near us, here in the suburbs.

This is a skinnypig:

Ok, Sunday night, Monday morning, we recieved 13 + inches of snow. Now we have rain. I am so praying that this doesn't turn to snow tonight. Please please please just let it be rain, Gail (on her knees begging) !!

Opa, drive careful, as you are special to a lot of people. Oh and when you come back, bring some sun!!!!

I guess my father must have missed that memo.

Here is what he "gave" us. Everyday after school, get out to the fields or barn and work till dark. Homework came after work was done and you better keep good grades. In return for doing chores year round and field work (Incidentally I started driving tractor at the age of 4) you were rewarded with the pick of the calf crop. We had 2,000 acres cash/crops and 300 head of beef cattle, usually 15-20 were picked as show calf prospects and sold accordingly, so I amd my brothers got first pick of those calves (1) and the feed to feed them till show. He also paid me $1.00/hr to bale hay from July till the time to go back to school. He didn't give me anything, I needed to earn it...I figure I paid for my animals and feed by the use of my back and muscles. I did the exact same thing with my two sons.

I have to agree with you on this Steve. My parents weren't into animals at all, I had to convince them to let me have them. My Dad grew up with horses and other stuff, he knew the work and wanted nothing more to do with it. I talked them into letting me fix up an old shed. I worked for a neighbor, helping them peel their cedar logs for fence posts, they paid me with extra logs for my own fence. I worked off every bit of stuff I needed. I had a part time job, I bought my own lamb, his food, everything. I cried when I loaded him on that truck and then bought my first car with the profit! I should say, I started with rabbits and my neighbor was my 4-H leader, that helped!

My kids do their chores before school and as soon as they get home. Before their snack and homework. They help pay for things, the older ones get jobs and pay for their own vehicles, and stuff like cell phones, etc. They do their own laundry, help clean, etc. It amazed me when my oldest moved into an apartment with a bunch of other guys, at one time their was 6 of them living there, he was the only one that knew how to load the dishwasher and the only one that could cook ANYTHING!! He was the only one that would vacuum and clean up. The others would do their laundry because they had to, but they wouldn't clean anything else, it was disgusting. The next year he was much pickier on who he shared an apartment with!!

What a long day! Mac and Herbie had fun at school tonight. Poor Kippy had to stay home. She was so sad, first her chicks got moved out and then the boys left her home alone with her papa. They watched some TV and took a few naps. In our dog class, there's this dog that is basset hound mixed with shar pei. I feel so bad for this dog. She has the short legs and length of a basset, the girth of a shar pei (and the skin). Her front legs are so crooked and they got worse. When she stands, her feet aren't out in front of her anymore - they are kicked out real bad. Poor thing - it looks like she needs to have surgery and have the front bones trimmed down and her feet "repositioned". It was recommended to her "mom" last year, but she was like "well, it was a free dog, and she has already cost a lot of money with her spay". I just wanted to smack her. Imagine putting your heels together and standing with your toes pointed outward, now try to walk and run like that .

(oh forgot to comment on the naked pig - animals need fur!)

Oh but they were sooooo cute. They had a tub full of Araucanas that didn't even look like chicks, but a bunch of chipmunks! They were climbing inside the feeders and I was afraid they'd get stuck. The worker said that they can get out, but once in awhile, they will get too fat while in there and need him to get them out.

I should get dark cornish eggs in the mail today- now if I am lucky they will come while I am home and my hubby is at work... "why are those eggs sitting on the table?" "Oh crud! I took them out to candle them, and never put them back in...."

Its so much easier when he is clueless than for him to see and say, "More eggs?" lol.

Good morning all- today is my cousins' memorial. I took the day off work, and now I have to work Saturday night. I will just fall asleep at work- there is no way I can stay up past eight thirty anyhow- and my clinic doesn't even lock the doors until 10 pm. Then there is clean up. If there is an emergency, sometimes you dont get out until after 2 am. They will find me sleeping in the food room-

Hope you all have a wonderful day. It is 55 degrees out there right now. If we get any sun, it will be nice.

Opa,

Im sorry for your loss- be safe in your travel, and we will keep you in our thoughts until you get back.

If you drive the right way, you may find some little roadside farm selling some chickens- OR- you could look on the chicks, chickens for sale threads and find some for sale in the area you will be traveling...you know, just to look.

Good morning

Well, the dogs have adjusted quickly.... Sophie sleeps on a dog bed next to the bed now and Halo is pouting still and sleeps with my DD. It's so nice to not have them as blanket weights...
