I know the feeling, but we all need a nap sometimes! I am the same way, I feel like I should be doing something productive instead of sleeping.

M Sue, cute babies. Squirt is my favorite :) I posted pics of my chicks on page #3720, take a look at the 2 wyandottes (they are no name #1 & #2) and tell me what you guys think. They look different from each other to me. The one looking at the camera is the one I think might be a boy...
Thanks, I'll take a peek at them when I'm done posting. As for napping.....I never feel guilty because I don't do it often and if I do...it's OK because I'm the one who gets the least amount sleep in my house.
M.Sue - Petey and Squirt sure are cute and your others are pretty!
Thank you ....they are the ones my kids picked out and claimed as theirs!

good thing you noticed they may have taken out the wrong body part

but really not...sadly it does happen.

Other than sneaking a peak at the board today I stayed off line most of the day. Set up the hoses to water my peas I planted, all this hot weather and no rain for days now. Then I pulled the car out of the garage and washed it! In March! Boy that thing is getting rusty! While it's outside I decided to empty my gardening shelves and clean them up, reorganize, throw out the mice nests, empty containers, etc. Half done, I'll continue tomorrow if it's really going to be as hot as they say. 90? up here?

The ducklings barrel out of the pop door as soon as mom comes out now. I can tell they used the wading pool it's a couple inches shy of full. Wish I could catch them at it. The guineas are free ranging daily, having a blast, just waiting on they arrival of my chicks in 2 weeks. Seems a long time away! It's nice to look at other peep's chicks while I wait though.

So sorry, Laura! Your Gabby looks like my Mia. As you know, I lost my first hen to a hawk a few weeks ago. It's so sad to loose one like that.

Love, love all the chix pics!!
Stacy, I got a good laugh picturing you in the pond.

Thanks Chickflick and 1mutts. I knew they were here but we have seen them before and have been lucky till now. When Robin was here we saw 3 of them circling around. I guess I thought since we are heavily wooded the chickens would have plenty of places to hide.

Chickflick, so sorry you lost one too

Hillbilly Hen- sorry about your Gabby.

Mom2- I agree with everyone. Stop and Rest!

Sarah- I have 2 wyandotte hens that have always had different combs. It can happen in hatchery stock so don't give up on them as girls yet.

I finally bought a new cord for my camera only to find it's my camera that isn't working right.

So until I can get a new camera no photos from me which really bums me out as I have a few I want to share. One in particular is of one of my australorp chicks that I think is a roo. They are only about 3 weeks old, but this guy has given me roo vibes for almost 2 weeks now. You ought to see the scowl he gives me when I'm holding him. MAJOR stink eye from such a young one.

Oh my gosh....How did I miss these cute little fuzz balls??? You got great pics of them. As for the Roo....I can't tell...lol...I didn't know I had one till he crowed back at me after I was talking to him one morning. He started young 6-7 wks. old. Funniest thing I ever heard and he sure was proud he could do it!!

Would it be possible for only one chicken in a flock to have worms?
I've noticed my EE has lost weight while my silkies and marans are just fine. Her breast bone is fairly prominent, but nothing seems to be off about her. She eats plenty, drinks, dust bathes, doesn't appear to have mites or lice, is very active and alert, but for some reason thinner than she was before.

I've checked the forum and it seems worms could be the problem, but could she be the only one with them?
Could age be a part of her getting thin? She's only 2 years old and hasn't had any issues laying or any sickness before.
I don't have a problem with working them, I just want to be sure that's the problem and that I'm not overlooking some other issue.

Another question, do chickens sometimes go bald?
My silkie Shmoo has had her blue butt hanging out featherless for what seems like forever. She shed the feathers last summer and I've repeatedly checked for lice and mites but found nothing. She's laid eggs on and off but has shown no sign of growing her belly feathers back. They all get snacks of egg, grubs and such and I try to make sure she gets extra protein, but I'm starting to think she has chicken pattern baldness on her belly.

Evening all,

I lost my quotes which I gathered throughout the day, and I am too exhausted to try finding them again, (this seems to be a trend...) so all I can remember is,

Olive, I like what you said about parenting. I do not hit my kids, and I find that they are much better behaved than many children we encounter. I think it is because I take the time to explain to them why I do not want them to do something, instead of simply threatening them, and depend more upon garnered respect than fear of pain. Sometimes it is very difficult not to say, "because I said so", but I realize it is only to make it easier on me, and not treating them as human beings. Honestly, I don't want them to do anything because someone "said so", without understanding and making an intelligent decision. I was spanked, belted, and switched as a child, and phrases like, "Don't make me use the buckle end", "Stop crying or I'll give you a reason to cry", and "Not that twig, it isn't supple enough", are burned into my memory, but I do not think it ever did anything to make me less naughty, it just made me sneakier, and gave me such fond memories of running circles around the couch, too scared to stop, scared of how much angrier my parent was getting.

Ok, now I have forgotten everything else I was going to say after that rambling, except that HH lost a chicken to a hawk, and

. I'm sorry, I fear the day I have to experience that.

Oh yes, and Sarah, I am too inexperienced to make any comment on your chicks, but I did want to say, beautiful photographs! They are stunning, great job, what kind of camera do you have?

Well, I just finished building what is most probably the worst fence, and the worst gate ever seen by mankind. At least it is only for the month of quarantine, but @#%*! They don't look that hard! What a pain! And chicken wire! No matter how hard I try to stretch that stuff, it always goes wobbly! Am I doing something wrong? It is so frustrating!

So frustrating, in fact, that I did have a few beers while trying to complete this task, which I admit now because I am afraid that by this time it may be obvious. I am just happy it is done now, though I got magnificently scraped up in the process. My poor "old" hens have been stuck in their run since Sunday, and they are definitely not happy. They normally free range. I am so glad I shall be able to let them out on the morrow.
