During the night I made it up to 10 hatched chicks, 1 dead in shell and 3 more pips. I have 1 Polish, 1 Cochin, 2 Sizzle and 6 Showgirls, although 2 look like plain silkies. I can't wait to get them out! I got up every couple hours and checked on them. My son got me up at 4:30 to tell me we had more and we sat and watched for 45 minutes. Not a great hatch rate but that's ok, I kind of expected it with shipped eggs. More inside work today so I can stick close to the incubator.

congrats on the new hatches,,,
getting worried, expecting Freedom Range eggs today,, just called the PO they haven't come in yet.... Thought I would get an E from the hatchery saying they have been shipped, that hasn't happened either. My E them to make sure they have been shipped out

Snowflake..
I feel okay today. i defiantly had a cup of coffee..and it hasnt affected my stomach yet. Yay me. Going from tons to none caffeine caused such a 'caffeine headache" yesterday, I decided I would rather be nauseous.

YAY taprock for the babies! I have showgirls in my incubator..and hope a couple turn out to be pullets. LOVE them.

I think I may have just corrected an issue that I never realized I had before. My neck is pretty well screwed up. Thats how the doctors always summarize it. I cant do much, like if i look up at a ceiling to paint it- gonna suffer...use my arms too much, puts strain on my neck- and wham headache/pinched something in the neck, etc...wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllll....my monitor sits on this huge computer workstation in my livingroom...and it is in a cubby off to the right and a little raised above eye level from my chair. Spending a week straight on the computer I realized having my head turned and at that angle all the time has really messed me up. SO I just switched it with my tower and now it is directly in front of my chair at eye level..well, just below eye level.
Lets see if that helps.

Morning All,
Looks like a dreary & damp day. I decided to try hanging my waterer in the pen. Between the straw & dirt those birds get it pretty gross looking by night fall. I'll be glad when I can move the coop & pen to a different spot and clean that spot back up. Looks like it's stripped of any grass from over this winter. Hopefully it will come back.
My new additions are sure growing fast and racing all over the brooder. Looks like they are playing a game of "You're It" at times. I know the pecking order is being established. The little OEG Squirt is so darn cute. Snuggles right up to the others when sleeping.

Taprock.....congrats on the hatches!!

Chickflick.....Nice to see ya back!

Chicken Grandma......I'm always busy but there are some that think I could do more...lol.....they think I got made. I do (at times & not) I feel blessed. Those people don't realize that I'm a mother, wife, daughter, sister, chauffeur, nurse, doctor, psychologist, tutor, cook, maid, gardener, groom, ect....the list goes on!! lol

Well gotta go....Good Day Everyone.... Hope everyone enjoys their week end. I'm heading with my DD to do some Horse Showing. I hope DH & DS don't trash the house while we're gone!! I might be in some of you guys area.....I'll be looking for chicken coops as we drive. lol

I mowed my back lawn on Wednesday, Opa. I let the front go but I'll have to do it today. Then I'll aerate.
M2M, I bought some western red cedar (Thuja plicata) to plant along the fence line. Kind of a "spite fence",

But something that the wild birds and I will both enjoy. These trees will do well there, since that area get pretty wet during the spring...well not this year.

Waiting for the ordinance guy to show. He did not give a time and I hate waiting for stuff like this. It's like waiting for the cable people.

Ducks will be going out side today, the little stinkers aren't so little anymore and they stink up the brooder quickly now.

My truck is in the shop so I'm stranded at home in case anyone wants to stop by and help plant trees. Or just visit.

Same thing here. The duck's have been spending days outside and by mid-weekthey will be in a new duck coop that will be tractor style. As messy as they are it will give me a chance keep them on green pasture.

If I were closer I'd stop by but I think you are central? I'm supposed to plant some new pear trees today. The deer wasted a few last yaer - young bucks!

What variety?
We had pears on the farm when I was a kid. I love fresh pears right off the tree.

The only pear trees around here are the ornamental flowering variety. They sure do look pretty though.
Darn near every flowering tree around here is in bloom.

I do them at work. Same as birds, pretty much..but along with the scope, you need Fecasol solution, and a coverslip.. and coccidia can be very hard to identify.
Yea, coccidia are very small & hard to ID. I didnt' mention the Fecasol because I preferred to use a sugar solution most of the time at school, brings up the heavier ova. And cheaper than fecasol, lol. But yes, that way works too, although like I mentioned never did a bird fecal before.

Is there a Tracotr Supply, or Family Farm and Home around there. Must be. They usually have it.

Sorry, that's the quick answer. Google hay and straw farms in Lansing Local farms usually advertise, and sell, straw, hay, and field grasses at a more reasonable price, however, best to check their stock and make sure it's been stored correctly. I've seen some pretty bad product rotated in front of last years. TSC and FFH usually have some nice stuff.
There is a Tractor supply, I was thinking of checking there but I thought it might be overpriced. I looked on Craigslist last night, found some farms but they were a bit of a drive to go pick it up. But my BF just bought a new diesel truck last night and he's itching to put it to work so maybe he wont mind a drive...lol
