afternoon. I don't wanna get up, that lightning sure was something last nite/this morning. I was freaked enuf that I threw papers that I normally walk. Surely I am going to have a list a mile long of complaints...

if I ever get the land, I know who to get piggies from now... I just wish I could have a cow...

well gotta go to work. Again.

Anyone that really knows chick markings please look over on the What Breed Or Gender Is This thread at my New Hampshire topic. I'm not looking to sex anything but need some expert opinions of what you see in the pictures. I can tell most chick breeds but these ones have me a tad baffled.

Hey everyone! Long time no see!!

I have a question and I thought this might be the best spot to ask.

I have 9 BBB turkey poults (1 month) that have almost outgrown their brooder box on the enclosed porch. I have another brooder out in the barn I'd like to put them in because it's taller and they wouldn't be able to jump up and hit the top. One did and broke it's neck last week.

I know all about the blackhead thing and the debate over putting turkeys with chickens. Here's where I'm having an issue. The brooder in the barn is a wall of the barn on one side, the wall of the 2nd brooder on another, poultry wire facing the front of the brooder and a poultry wire wall that shares with the chickens. So in other words, the turkeys and chickens wouldn't have actual access to each other but they share a poultry wire wall. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, would that be ok? This would only be for a month or so until we're able to put them in their own enclosure. I probably could now but I want them a little bigger.

And what's funny (not really) I just visited a hatchery and they keep the turkeys, chickens, and peafowl, in runs that share the same soil and runoff. I know there are a few people here that raise, and sell turkeys that could give you some advise. From all the reading I've done there is a a good chance that turkeys can get blackhead from areas where chickens have been, or are kept. I would pen mine away from the chickens as a matter of principle. Good luck Keyt and visit more often.

Lady feather - do you only have 3 chicks?
The little sleepy one may or may not make it. It is always good to get a few extra chicks because some just don't make it. Don't know if it is too late to get a few more from the same place (best for disease prevention to get them from the same place).
Are those Isa Browns?
Thanks for posting, they are very very cute. Make sure the sleepy one keeps eating and drinking and make sure he/she stays at about 95 degrees for the next few days.

We actually have 8 of them so plenty of buddies to snuggle with. The sleepy one is the same one that had the pasty bottom. I might get some yogurt tonight and give it for a few hours. Too soon to give some Trivisol? ( I have some from liquid for my kids).

TSC requires you to buy six and I can't get that many more. The girl at the store said they are ISA browns but I can't be sure. She said they just got a huge box that said "assorted" on it and put it out.

I got the larger white tub cleaned, put twice as much bedding down (they had dug bare spots everywhere), new water, checked the food level, and tucked them back under the lamp. With the longer bin they have more room to hop around and get away from the heat if they need to.

Hubby checked on them just now when he came home and said they were all asleep until he poked his head over them. They weren't huddled tight together but weren't sprawled out away from the lamp. He said there is no sign that anyone is overly lethargic so I just hope its getting better. I'll head back down in a bit to dip a beak in the water and try getting it to peck at food. They were all eating well about a half hour ago off the brooder floor or my hand.

I'm thinking you need to sell me a baby sow or two!!! I thought about contacting her about the pigs, but I'm glad you got them! But... I'd be interested in a piglet!
We have two more sows that are due soon, so we will be overrun with piglets. :th Just let me know when you want some. :) Also, congrats on saving the woodcock! I have never seen them around here before.
Fabulous Pigs Farmerboy! Do you have a mom and piglets in the barn plus 5 others outside? Are you planning to breed them? What type are they?

Sillychicken! Great job saving the little woodcock!! I am very thankful for people like you!
We have 3 breeder sows and a breeder boar, plus 2 non-breeder quality gilts. The non-breeder quality gilts will be pork for our family in the fall. One of the sows had given birth to 6 piglets the morning before Olive delivered them to us. Instant gratification! :D Whoops, forgot to say that they are American Guinea Hogs, and we plan to help preserve the breed. :)
I got to meet Olive and her family yesterday!!! They are a very cool family!!
Thanks, Daron. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family as well. When we pulled out my oldest daughter said "You know, Mom. I'm glad they're staying there. I was worried, but they'll have lots of kids to love them still." :)

Awww, Jas. We all miss the big lug already. Give him a scratch behind the ears for me.
I sure will for you, Olive. :) I fed them my unhatched eggs this morning, and they sure liked them. :sick Esp Annabelle, she took one semi chewed up egg to the shed, and ate it with her babies. :sick Well, that is a good way to dispose failed to hatch eggs very quickly. No need to bury them any more. :D

Hi all. I am back now. Lots of changes happened in my life so I was gone for awhile. My husband and I are no longer together and I have moved but life is good. Had to sacrifice a lot of my chickens for this but I still have my Marans and Penedenseca's and a few other breeds. Good to be back. Lots of names I haven't seen before so welcome newcomers.

So sorry, or so happy for you Robin. It's always hard, tho, to end a relationship, Hope you are doing ok and glad you're back. You have lots of support here, so if you're down, just pop in on BYC and we're here to listen and brighten your day.
