So sorry, or so happy for you Robin. It's always hard, tho, to end a relationship, Hope you are doing ok and glad you're back. You have lots of support here, so if you're down, just pop in on BYC and we're here to listen and brighten your day.

Thanks chickflick. I am good with it. It was my own doing and yes it is hard to end a relationship, especially a 32 year one. But sometimes it is just time to move on and the time was here. We still talk and go some places together but it was time.

That's where all my critters go for hugs, be they feathered or furred. You are doing fine, breathe! Just make sure she's drinking too, not just eating. I think you have a friend now

Ferrret Could an empty belly cause a chicken to walk in unsteady circles?
I think so, if she's weak. Has she been seperated from the flock at all before this, even by attempting to brood?
My 2nd EE hen is also very docile, this happened to her also about a month after i adopted her. Got along well, then suddenly got shy and picked on. Caged her in the coop, with tons of food and water, so she could eat without being picked on. Once she got her spunk back, she was fine and holds her own now, and has gotten a bit bigger than my other EE hen, believe it or not! Key is to get her eating and spunky, and re introduce on a weekend where you can do it supervised, just in case. Also watch to see that she isn't filling up on non-food items. Adding additional food and water dishes can also help when you re introduce.

Well, trying a new tactic in the "please brood for me" approach. Read on the broody hen thread that some hens prefer "tunnel" nests, so i put a small dog house in there, which has a removable roof. Then put about a dozen eggs in there, and showed the rooster. (He's the resident nest maker, according to the girls) He went in there and sang for a long time! Those girls were all interested, 2 have been thinking about it, laying around here and there seeming to look for the "just right" bed, lol.

Pearl is doing good still, though i had to show her how to drink and eat. Thought she was, but i noticed her trying to eat the water, and crop was empty. Dipped her a few times, till there was something in her crop, and also changed the water container to the equivalent of an ash tray of water, she figured that one right out. Sprang to life drinking a ton and demanding food, she finally figured out to put it IN instead of pecking it! lol. Not the brightest bulb, but charming.

Oh, sorry to blab on and on, but i forgot to ask about the broad breasted white turkeys:

Can you feed them normal and not have their legs give out on them? We are toying with the idea of buying some, but don't know at this point if we are eating or keeping. Also, could home raised ones breed, or is this still a problem?

They are on sale here, otherwise Randy in Muskegon has some heritage ones, though they were $6 apiece last year.......

i still miss rose incredibly much, and i hope this gal doesn't have problems, too. It does seem that the quiet and most personable ones have things wrong that we can't always see.

I love the little guys. I was excited last year that this momma what gonna have some babies in the back ( she was sitting on 4 eggs) but something ate all her eggs.

Can you PM me his phone number? I've heard of him in and thought he was mentioned at the Ravenna auction. The $6 price seems pretty standard. That's what I was quoted at two hatcheries.. TSC was unloading chicks and poults for 50 cents a few days ago. They were white BBBs. I layed in another flock of layers just because- I thought I only bought a few but somehow they multiplied when I put them in the stock tank - chicken math
