Oooh, a Michigan thread!  I'm from West Michigan.  New to raising chickens.   Just bought my dozen chicks from Townline in Zeeland.  Three weeks along now and loving it! :D

Welcome, ladyrsanti

Eeyore thats great :D

I also find some of the colors difficult to read. And if you do quote, you can delete the part of what you are quoting that is not relevant, shortening the post and making things easier to follow - for which I would be very grateful.

So if today wasn't bad enough...

How many F-bombs can you drop in 10 seconds? I think I hit a new record!
First I try to squish my dog with the trailer.
Then I come in to find the sink disposal backed up with sewer water. Easy enough fix, right? Just disassemble and clean it out.

Loosening the drain is no big deal...except when the collar breaks and black sludge sprays all over the place! A drain is NOT supposed to be under pressure!

Looks like the kitchen re-model will be advanced. F-bomb! me!

Welcome Ladyrsanti!

I am in Grand Rapids and there are quite a few of us from West Michigan.
I hope you can sort through our silliness on here and get all the info you need.

Please ask any questions you would like - no question is too dumb. Chickens are a mysterious and curious bird!
We have had quite a bit of illness in W. Michigan lately so I you might want to read up on biosecurity for your flock.
Seems like W. Michigan has been the area where respiratory disease has come up most often.

This is a great site for learning about any aspect of raising chickens that is confusing! Enjoy!

Welcome. 99.93% of the time, we are friendly and helpful. Once in a great while we get snarky and even grumpy. Today was my day, I'm sad to say. Don't let that put you off. We are all friends and family here. That's why we are comfortable saying what we do.

Check out my signature links for information about Chickenstock in June. Come and join in the fun.

Sorry, Raz, that sucks. Two of our daycare parents were plumbers and oh the stories they would tell us! Gross gross gross. I like your cute ducks, though.

Well, I do at least do that, even if I sometimes end up with a lot of quotes, and I try to eliminate extra spaces, as well, to make them as short as possible.

Welcome, ladyrsanti!

Farmerboy - Love the pics!

VERY chatty today. I finally caught up... but must admit I skimmed a bit so if I appear lost I may not have caught everything.

Juise - your vegan explanation was very good. I rarely eat meat but just don't like the in your face people.

Sarah - Wonderful news!

Olive - about 10 years ago a biopsy was about $90.00 for I believe two spot to be tested. Five years later they wanted to test 5 spots and we said no. If it was cancerous we wouldn't really have done anything at that point except monitor it as our pup was 12 years old at that time.

Raz - sorry to hear about your crazy day. Glad your pup is ok - nothing like the shot of adrenaline to your system. Hope your kitchen mess gets better not worse.

Grandma - it sounds like you are doing everything you can with the allergies. My son finally started shots this year. He hasn't had a clear nose in years. It is so tough to see him miserable and not have anything that helps.

Nova - that silkie is adorable!

Farmerboy - I like Jasper, good name and cute pig.

Welcome um... once again with the names. sorry!

Opa - I bought the cream cheese and coconut milk to make that delicious sounding cake, only to come home and discover hubby had the coconut on his ice cream so I still can't try to make it.

Hey Gang!
Been a couple of weeks since I have been able to post on here cause I just can't keep up on the posts. I usually spend a hour a night trying to catch up on posts and usually tucker out around 10:00 p.m., w/ nearly 100 unread posts. I woke up early this morning before the little juvenile delinquents got up and was able to read a hundred posts or so. Then got back on here around 8:30 tonight to find me behind 230ish or so.

Gimini Crickets people! Finally caught up, but by the time I post this message there will probably be like 10 unread posts.

Been staying super busy. Have worked on the coop some. Decided to raise it up on cinder blocks. Attached a front door and a back door. Started on the roost and the poop trays. Ripped out the original run and will have to start over. Mowed and trimmed for the second time this season today. That is nearly a day long job, so today wasn't so productive, just exhausting.

Chicks are arriving from Townline next week.
Brooder is the bottom of an appliance box. Checked it out earlier in the week. - ready to go.
Got two new barn cats - rarely see them. One is super skittish...don't even know where he hides.
Getting a bunch of asphalt work done in the driveway and barn. Started yesterday...hopefully they will get it finished soon...the guy said probably the first week of May ---geesh!
Back to my paying job tomorrow. Should be able to keep up w/ the thread for the next 3-4 days anyway.

Raz - Glad the dog is OK. I am sure that was scary. Hope your plumbing problems won't be too bad. We have plumbing issues here too. Not sure if the septic tank is full, or we just go hair balls and junk in the pipes. Our master shower takes forever to drain. The dishwasher fills the sink when it drains and there is always detergent residue left in the dishwasher after a load finishes. After reading your experience, I am sure I don't want to get black sludge exploded all over me fo sho!

Farmerboy - love the pigs (and Bella). Maybe next year or one of these years, we will be in a position to get a pig or two ourselves. - we are sticking to chickens and hopefully a garden for this year

Silly Chicken - Happy birthday!

Sarah - Congrats on the new job! Been hoping it would come through for you. You have been waiting for that for quite a while. Hope it will be everything you expect!

GrandmaNancy- bummer on your son's allergies. We have recently learned our 20 month old has a gluten intolerance. That has been a pain in the backfield. Seems like gluten is in everything. Grilled some steaks tonight and had to leave his on a separate part of the grill. Had to use separate tongs to flip it. What a pain. Hopefully the honey will help your son!

Juice - watched the egg vid last night. Girls are cuties! Did you ever get your bat box built. I keep thinking I should do that, but so far this spring any construction has been on the chicken coop. - guess there's always next year for me! Mosquitos are already swarming - haven't seen any bats around yet anyway.

Opa - good luck w/ the old dog. Sounds like good advice from Mom2m to do a blood workup first to make sure you are not just prolonging the inevitable if you decide to go w/ the oral surgery.

Mom2Em - how is the surgery recovery going? Are you still a black and blue freakshow all over your midsection?

Yorkchick - Susan, where have you been? Haven't seen you in a while? What is your husband's job situation?

Lots of newbies - Welcome...hope you have lots of time on your hands. You will need it to keep up w/ this chatty bunch.
