Alright I have been lurking long enough and it’s time to introduce myself to everyone.
Good morning or evening to everyone. I hope to be living in Michigan by this summer, but I am going to be maybe a week late for Chickenstock. I am working to change my timeline to correct this error in my planning. You all can expect to see lots and lots of questions about living this far up north (
), and with what seems to be very wet ground especially when it comes to building and planting things. I have never lived farther north than KS, well in the USA that is. My plan is to build my coop late this summer/fall and fill it next spring with chicks, we will see if I can hold out that long (I doubt it).
A little about me, I am currently in the USAF living in Germany but plan to be joining the ANG at Battle Creek this summer. I am a self described “city farmer”, my family background is all farming and ranching in Kansas (corn/wheat/beans/beef cattle/sheep) but I have lived most my life in the city with only small gardens, dogs, cats, and a couple cows and a horse for a while in JH and HS (Dad was in the USAF also). But we did a lot of visiting on the farm growing up and I worked with my grandfather’s during the summers while I was in college (most of my fondest memories are from time on the farm). I have had the opportunity to live and travel all over the US and World but when I am home I enjoy hunting, fishing and outdoor time with the family.
I tend to have thick skin; so please if I miss speak, upset/offend anyone or pass wrong/bad data with something I post, PM me and call me out. I would rather be told I said something wrong or gave bad or misleading data than to be ignorant to the fact and continue (then I just look like a donkey’s backside). I can’t emphasize this enough; I have many years in the military and in my career field we tend to be straight to the point and blunt, there is no beating around the bush or sugar coating things. So, don’t think my feelings will be hurt, I can’t correct a problem if I don’t know a problem exist and I will get over it. I am a guy so you will need to keep things in simple terms ladies, I don’t pick up on subtle hints well, just ask my wife.
BTW you are some of the chattiest folks this last week or so; I have been getting up an hour earlier just to keep up before I leave for work.
Sorry for the ramble, I am looking forward to chatting with you all more.
