Michigan

Alright I have been lurking long enough and it’s time to introduce myself to everyone.

Good morning or evening to everyone. I hope to be living in Michigan by this summer, but I am going to be maybe a week late for Chickenstock. I am working to change my timeline to correct this error in my planning. You all can expect to see lots and lots of questions about living this far up north (

), and with what seems to be very wet ground especially when it comes to building and planting things. I have never lived farther north than KS, well in the USA that is. My plan is to build my coop late this summer/fall and fill it next spring with chicks, we will see if I can hold out that long (I doubt it).

A little about me, I am currently in the USAF living in Germany but plan to be joining the ANG at Battle Creek this summer. I am a self described “city farmer”, my family background is all farming and ranching in Kansas (corn/wheat/beans/beef cattle/sheep) but I have lived most my life in the city with only small gardens, dogs, cats, and a couple cows and a horse for a while in JH and HS (Dad was in the USAF also). But we did a lot of visiting on the farm growing up and I worked with my grandfather’s during the summers while I was in college (most of my fondest memories are from time on the farm). I have had the opportunity to live and travel all over the US and World but when I am home I enjoy hunting, fishing and outdoor time with the family.

I tend to have thick skin; so please if I miss speak, upset/offend anyone or pass wrong/bad data with something I post, PM me and call me out. I would rather be told I said something wrong or gave bad or misleading data than to be ignorant to the fact and continue (then I just look like a donkey’s backside). I can’t emphasize this enough; I have many years in the military and in my career field we tend to be straight to the point and blunt, there is no beating around the bush or sugar coating things. So, don’t think my feelings will be hurt, I can’t correct a problem if I don’t know a problem exist and I will get over it. I am a guy so you will need to keep things in simple terms ladies, I don’t pick up on subtle hints well, just ask my wife.

BTW you are some of the chattiest folks this last week or so; I have been getting up an hour earlier just to keep up before I leave for work.

Sorry for the ramble, I am looking forward to chatting with you all more.
Scott

Olive, you are exactly right in saying something. Much better that we monitor our thread than having the moderators getting involved.

EMAW, welcome to the Michigan thread and hopefully you will be able to make Chickenstock.

The coffee pot is full so grab yourself a cup and sit a spell before jumping into your day.

Today I've got to find the manual for my lawn tractor. The front axle broke and the right front wheel now sits at a 90 degree angle. Hopefully I can replace it and not have to buy a new lawn tractor. I'm trying to save money for hearing aids and certainly don't need that large a purchase cutting into my savings.

Welcome Scott, and thank you for the service you've given to our country. We are chatty, and its not my fault. I am here for comic relief. Me and my trusty touchpad, hahaha.

I go for my 2 new pullets today. Will post picks as soon as they are home with me.

Good Morning All.

I am so crabby I have to change my 'tude real fast like...I have to work from noon to eternity. And doing such with a crabby attitude just makes the day stink oh so much more.

Once again my grandson is coming to spend the night, and once again I have to work so I miss out.

Gonna go grumble to myself and get ready for work.

You all have a good day.

*grumble grumble...grumble.....*

Hi EMAW, glad you joined in.

Maybe remembering that this thread is open to children would help limit what is said. I am not a prude, but there are conversations that are better done privately than on a public forum. Not saying anything here that you would not say in front of someones kids is a good standard to follow.

EMAW.....Welcome.....and thank-you for your service....its an honor to have you here amongst our chatty selves.:)

Olive, thank-you for speaking up. Not to offend anyone,.but so far this has been a pretty family friendly thread, let's keep it that way.;)

Taprock....EEEEEWWWW!!!!!

Morning Nova...yes, chick pictures to drool over please,

EMAW, hope you make it to MI. I retired here after 31 years of active duty service.

Anyone have a Khaki Campbell? Opinions?

I can only think of a line for the movie "Bridge Over The River Kwai" where the prison commandant extolls the prisoners to be happy in your work.
