Sushi is always ALWAYS positioning herself above my head...for example, I am sitting at the computer desk- and my camera is RIGHT HERE...I just now grabbed the camera and pointed it up and snapped a picture to prove my point:

And then, once I caught her...she looks away as if she is innocently sitting up there...

ETA- hmmmm apparently I have a spot on my ceiling that only the camera can see...because I am looking up there now, and dont see it. weird.

AND-
adorable chicks, LoveMyChicklets~!!!!

I candle on day 10 and again on day 18. Then under no circumstances open incubator until hatch is complete or day 23. Then I remove hatched chicks, close incubator and give unhatched eggs 2 more days.

Hatched chicks will be fine until day 23

Silly... This is what comes up when you google "silly chicken birthday"!!!
I think we all have this "terrible" disorder...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Now that's funny!

Thanks everyone for the kind birthday wishes!!
My parents came over in the evening with a pan of desert and we sat n talked for a while... held bunnies and pigged out on desert. After they left, we hopped on the motorcycles and went for a ride around the block. It was actually warm out last night! Tomorrow DH is going to help me build a broody box (which surprised me cause he usually has his own agenda for the weekend). But I told him we needed a bigger place for the current chicks and to be prepared for turkey poults if they hatch and the hens don't manage them. So he says how many! I said TWO! LOL!

I took the chicks out to clean the tote and noticed they were scratching their beaks and sneezing..a lot, almost all of them were doing it... I'm thinking omg, they're sick. But when I cleaned the tote I noticed the bedding I was trying, was seriously dusty and holding too much moisture (chicks love to try to scratch while drinking, silly chickens).......so they are back on paper towels at the moment till I can go get some fresh bedding material. I didn't notice as much sneezing this morning so I'm hopeful it was just the compressed pine pellets I used for bedding... I don't recommend using that stuff!! I'll probably go back to the pine shavings. How do you guys make your chicks friendlier? I swear I can hear the chicks screaming

"GAHZIRRAaaa, GAHZIRRAaaa.... WUN!"

when I try to pet them... whats the secret?

There were so many things going on here, topics are all over the board! It's crazy some days. I feel like I should take notes so I could hit all the comments I want to.

I can deal with a great many nasty things, but not that!

Raz, glad your dog is ok. Bummer about the black water sludge, that stuff is NASTY smelly! ECK! I always hated when we had a plumbing job to do.

Welcome back M Sue

SARAH,

I'm surprised no one has ever reported me to a mod.... well, that I know of...yet.... I tend to be direct when I have an opinion... like does Olive I see! But, I always think that's a good thing. I'm not into candy coating or mind games or going behind someones back and reporting them in secret. Lets keep it up front, it's a lot easier to respect someone when they are honest and upfront about things that bother them.

Farmerboy, Bella is adorable! She looks like she's in great condition and I can't wait to see picts of her calf when she has it! How have the pigs been settling in?

The silkie chick was so cute... can't wait for mom to post some dry uggo picts (hint hint)!!

Hope everyone has a good day!

My chicks all sound the same way and the ducklings are the loudest when we try to check them out. It sounds like your birthday was great. Some of my older chicks are coming around and don't go ballistic when I lean over the edge to check them out. I hold some feed in my hand from time to time and let them eat. One of mine is sneezing, I think its dust so I'll be cleaning things out today myself.

Uchytil and EMAW: I want to express my thanks for your service as well. That includes anyone else on the thread- many of my friends and family are either retired or active duty right now.

Michigan is a pretty great state because you can do just about anything here. From time to time we get snow down here closer to Ohio in the Spring (like last week or so) and we can get some freaky weather. We were in the 80s weeks ago which isn't too routine. I hate the cold and snow but I find plenty to entertain myself with and I know tons of successful gardeners. :) Some of them have had plants in the ground and growing well all ready.

LoveMyChicklets - OMSqueeee! How adorable!

Mom 2em - Ok Sushi is just... just... disturbing.

Brethren....I've read days 7....14.....and day 18..... If you have really dark eggs like black copper marans or welsummers. I'd wait till day 10.... They r hard to candle ....even with a crazy bright flashlight
