Hi everyone, I'm new to hens AND the board.
We are located near Kalamazoo in a small town called Plainwell. Love the country life.
Hi everyonejumping in and getting my feet wet
another new chicken mama out of Manistee, figured I would pop over here and see what the Michigan thread was all about

I believe that my little Black Ameracuna is broody too. She was in the nestbox when I closed up the coops tonight and she screamed at me.Had a Vorwerk hen go broody so I took her out, placed in in another cage, stuck a half dozen eggs under her. I like feathered incubators.
Vorwerks, blue orpingtons, spangled hamburg. Anyone needing any bantam chicks?
Aww,The poor little beebers after I wiped most the blood off. Yes, there is still some dried blood splattered across her face, but I didn't want to torment her too much. Hopefully everyone will be less suicidal for the rest of the day.

Aww,Thank goodness she didn't get one of her eyes. Such big beautiful brown eyes.![]()
Got the chicks coming on Wednesday or Thursday, and have a quick question about the brooder lamp. Does it need to be oriented straight up and down w/ the brooder, or can it be at an angle? Also, does it need to be 95 degrees right under the lamp and cooler at the sides or 90's on the sides and 100 degrees + right below the lamp? I have the 250 watt red bulb and if I orient it straight up and down, it is well over 100 degrees directly below the lamp. (approximately 18" from lamp to floor) If I mount it at an angle then it is mid nineties in the middle of the brooder.
