Vicki---glad to see you found a potential source for royal palms. I just love them. You might want to check on yahoo groups---MI poultry lovers. It seems they have listed them on recently too. I'll will keep my peepers open for listings.

Our day went down hill a little bit. We were having a fun day riding at the barn when my oldest DD's horse spooked when another horse outside kicked it's metal feeder bin. Tess and another horse in there, Shiloh, both spooked and ran, then both turned sharp to avoid hitting the arena stalls. When Tess turned sharp Kara fell off, and rolled into a plastic barrel. She did have her helmet on and got back up and rode Tess around the indoor arena a couple more times, which the horse was fine. She, of course, says her head hurts a bit, but I did call my doctor and he said to keep and eye on her. After this whole Natasha Richardson thing, I think most everyone is more cautious about falls and such. I prayed over her right away, and I would appreciate any other prayers you all have to offer. She seems her usual self, but hey---I'm a mom. It's part of my job to be super vigilant about stuff like this.

blueberrylu-glad she is ok, but yup you are right, I would keep an eye on her. Glad to hear she had her helmet on!

I am up to 22 babies in the bator!!

Cyrstal those 2 are still pipped, but nothing else...I will keep you posted!

Thanks dcmom. My kids have to wear their helmets when they are around the horses---even just to lead them or groom them. It's both a 4-H and mom rule. I wear my helmet when riding and lots of time when I am working them. I know I look goofy, but I would look much worse laying in a bed in a nursing home or worse. I love my family, thats why I wear a helmet.

afternoon all, looks like the trip to the income tax man wasn't as bad as it could have been. Kinda glad I put up a new barn this year, it sure helped.

I'm glad your daughter is okay bbl, I spent a lot of time on a horses back working our cow herd, never wore more than a baseball type cap.....if I'd a hurt my melon no one would notice as goofy as I am anyway. All those years I never got bucked out of the saddle or had a horse spook.....although ours didn't like snakes or electrical fences.

Chicken quesadilla's for supper tonight.

O.K. silkie fans a little help please. I have heard silkie nesting boxes should be on the floor is this correct? Next what size should I make them. We made our standard boxes too big and now 2 or 3 girls try to squeeze into one. I have the coop without the outside siding done. I am just waiting to figure out how to design the nesting boxes. Thanks I know how smart you all are and I can use all the help I can get. Besides I had no intention of getting silkies until you infected me with the I have to have evil silkies disease. Soooooooooo............it's all your fault I had to build a silkie house!

We have been so busy. Trying to get our broody hens seperated from the rest. Some of the other hens have been kicking them out and the eggs are getting broken. Now we have them both together in one area. Our little bantum is in her own area also.

Steve glad to hear that the little one is still staying in Mommas belly. I will pray for her also.
Hope the ear problems clear up. I have had fluid in my ears so much and usually have to have it drained and tubes put in. Always my left ear. The doctor always says it is unusual for an adult to get it. But, I am an unusual adult I guess!!

M2eA We had an americana hen that got the whole top of her head ripped up by a raccoon. We cleaned her up and then stuck a ton of anibiotic cream on her. We kept an eye on her to make sure she was eatting and not getting attacked and she pulled out of it and is just fine. She has some white feathers where her skin grew back together.
Our great grandson is here for the weekend!!!

The little bantams from the Mason Farm & Home have called to me all day! I think, maybe, we might go get a few tomorrow. How old do they have to be before I can introduce them to the other chicks? We are going to keep our silkies in a separate coop from the bigger birds - would it be okay to keep the bantams with the silkies?

I would say that would be the perfect place for them! I don't have silkies, but keep one for one of my 4-H kids, it lives with my serama's. It is funny because she looks huge next to them. I usually take her egg out and put it in the eating pile, if I am keeping eggs to incubate, which is easy, since hers is bigger. Well, 2 of the serama's went broody in that pen, and I am afraid, I might have a silkie/serama cross or two coming!
