How are you, btw? Good to see you around.
I'm good. Been real busy. Put up a new coop, 2 Icelandic hens having chicks hatch, and just put 78 eggs in lockdown yesterday. How about yourself?

I had forgotten about your hatch. I'm glad you mentioned it. Which breeds did you have in there again? The weather is warm... I might need some chicks.

I'm well. Gotta love this time of year. Just working on planting, getting pigs ready to go on pasture, gearing up for summer and thoroughly enjoying the fact that it's light until after 9pm.

I have Cuckoo Marans, Lakenvelders, Icelandics, a couple of Golden Campines,a couple of Splash Andalusion, some FBCM over Blue and Splash Marans, and a few Partridge Penedesenca's.

I was going to ask you also. My son is looking for 2 turkey poults. He needs a blue slate female and a royal palm male. He has a blue slate male and a royal palm female. Just young ones but he is looking for 2 more if you happen to have any for sale.

I've only ever raised Narragansetts and I sold those to EeyoreD. I think SillyChicken has Royal Palms. I'm not sure of anyone that has Blue Slates -- I could dig out my ALBC guidebook and see if there are any MI breeders listed. (Are they on the conservation list?) I also know Blue Slates tend to be popular at one of the swaps I sometimes go to, it'd be a bit of a drive for you though... if you're interested anyway I can PM you the info for next month's.

Let me give these chicks some thought. I keep going back and forth on whether I want to get chicks or just look for some pullets/hens.

Thanks Olive. Send info if you want and I will look it over and see what he wants to do. Will pm Silly tomorrow about a Royal Palm.
No hurry on the chicks as they are not due to hatch until Monday. If you decide you want some just let me know. If you are going to Chickenstock I will be happy to hold them for you and bring them up there.
Going to bed now. You have a great night. Talk to you tomorrow.

OK, stupid question. At what age can you put chicks out without a heat lamp? I don't have electric in my coop....... Is it warm enough being in the high 50's?????????

Either my chicks are cold, or terrified of the dark..... (everyone else is panting) Anyone else ever have a batch of chicks be scared of the dark? I have never had this happen.
I have had chicks that were afraid of the dark- fussed and cheeped when it was completely dark- using the red lamp way too long because of it. Not since i have had this chick warmer thingy from Brinsea..they have always had dark. I think the red lamp gives them nighlight security.

I WILL NOT crossbreed with a cardinal type thing.

Uggos?

AND- which one of you all outbid me on ebay for the Porcelain d'uccle eggs? I still have some, but I was trying for more...I was going to put them in the raffle for Chickenstock.

Well, I still have items for the raffle but I was going to add them, as well.

I took my kids to the drive-in last night. They had never been, and the closest one is far away but we did it anyhow. Nice experience for them. They sat out in chairs, and laughed at me and my husband sleeping during the movie. Too old now for a drive in. hahahahahaa.

Olive I guess I should have tagged your skim-sensors when I mentioned my pervert pigeon. Do you have any advice for me ? I would like to help him not find chickens attractive. Pigeon counseling is too expensive. It is impossible for me to have both a male and a female pigeon. Every time I have ONE sex, and get the opposite, the first pigeon either gets eaten or dies. So, I gave up on that idea.
