no. She's good now that she is safe with her babies. No yard work really. Cleaned the big coop, moved the duck fence, gave the yes meaties a little run, the new ducks too... So nothing really. I will watch them...

Keep an eye on yourself, Nova..and if bruising shows up in other places, go see a doctor.

I am out in the yard working, and my hens and chicks are throwing a fit. They want out of their yard and into mine. NOPE. Those days are done. I have planted and hauled and spread and raked and watered and built and while there is no grass, there is grass potential, and beautiful areas with flowers and other plants. NO more chickens out in my yard. Mine mine mine. They have their huge yard area, they can deal with it.

My broody came off the nest- I noticed her chasing Robins' blue pullet all over the yard. I found eggs in the yard, and my broody has a busted egg stuck to her chest. No eggs in her nest.

I took two from the other broody and put them in her nest to see if she returns. However, I dont know what happened. Probably nothing. I think that the pullet probably just went into the coop and my hen decided to spazz..not sure. The pullet probably tried to hide in the nest box. ????/

OK, stupid question. At what age can you put chicks out without a heat lamp? I don't have electric in my coop....... Is it warm enough being in the high 50's?????????

Either my chicks are cold, or terrified of the dark..... (everyone else is panting) Anyone else ever have a batch of chicks be scared of the dark? I have never had this happen.

Ha, I had this same question last week (literally: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/665355/7-weeks-sissies-or-should-i-worry ) They all huddled together in a ball the first few nights and totally eschewed the roosts. They've been fine and fiesty during the day though and everyone is doing well. Not sure if bantams are more fragile but mine did fine (and it got pretty cold a couple of nights last week)

Olive I guess I should have tagged your skim-sensors when I mentioned my pervert pigeon. Do you have any advice for me ? I would like to help him not find chickens attractive. Pigeon counseling is too expensive.

Pigeon counseling! Actually I'm not sure Olive is the one to ask. Remember, she was the one who had the Rouen drake that thought he was a goose and mated with the other goosey women. She solved the problem by giving him to me. I solved it by having predators around, apparently. But I did have a dream last night that Buddy turned back up with goslings in tow.

Ugg....no.

It's true, I had Buddy who thought he was a goose, (tried to) mate with geese, and even sat goose nests sometimes. What Eeyore doesn't know if that it doesn't end there. I also used to have a gay gander, and the alpha gander I passed on to her is bi... I had to re-home his boyfriend in order to get him to go back to mating with the ladies. (I really wish I was making this up, but alas... )

At any rate, my advice would be to get him a female pigeon to occupy his interests. Of course, I think you tried that once and she flew off.

So what you're saying is: When the geese come running, it's not because I have treats but because they're staging a Pride parade?

... And if you love them, you'll buy them tiny rainbow speedos and glittery batons.

Well this is how it went...

I had a male pigeon who needed a mate. Vicki4X4 found one for me at a swap...I brought her home, clipped her wings- and kept them together..when her feathers grew in, she flew off...and came back with a rif-raf street pigeon that she met at the gas station. They came and went a few times, then she disappeared.

SO, then I got another female- the pure white pigeon- kept her... and a hawk got my male. SO, I got her a male from hmm Exetersomeone..flew him in from California. Kept that little pain in the butt til he grew up and got hormones and decided he was a true male- and my female got sick and died.

Had the lone male for awhile, then he vanished after a storm.

SOOOOOOOOOOO- my mom found a homing pigeon very tame in her yard. It stared at her backdoor from her fence for three days, and she could walk right up to it. So, she gave him to me so the hawk in her area wouldnt get him.

Its been around for quite awhile now. Survived some predator attack here where its feathers were all ripped out from the wings back. Two punctures in its back. Hawk talons? Possibly.
Grew all his feathers back in, and still he stays around. Just started flying, but doesnt go anywhere. Is totally in love with my chickens.

I had this problem with a duck that I gave to keyt. He used to jump the chickens every chance he got- ripped feathers out, etc. The chickens would be sqwauking and running and the duck would have them by the neck...

What I wanna know is, how do you manage to gender/species confuse so many, Olive? Suspicious farming you have going on over there. Trying to make your own version of Uggos...

Seriously! I'm a little worried about what's going to hatch from the goose eggs I have. Velociraptors that can SWIM?!

I just let nature take it's course, baby. LOL!

I am planning on going to a swap next month and I just so happen to have reason to be in The D every couple of weeks these days. I could look for a female for you, if you'd like.
