I'm from Michigan too!! Southwest michigan, Three Rivers to be exact and I'm fairly new with chickens and I want more but I'm trying to hatch my own but I need help with that still. I'm also looking for other breeds I really want a Bantam Rooster but I'll need more hens before I bring home another rooster :( if anyone has any breeds other than Rhode Island reds and don't live too far from me I'll definantly check them out :D

By the way, those are mine, and I live in TR.
Most are show/breeder quality, so thats why some of the prices are higher. They are extremely tame and calm, and exellent as pets.
They look like this, almost as bad as uggos (vultures).

How many hens do you need per rooster? I have 2 roosters and 7 hens!!
I can keep pairs as a minimum, if the cock is gentle, but like trios and quads.

Worked on the coop/ run... put locks on, hung feeder, filled with sand and some river rocks, put some more trim on... Hmmm seems like I worked harder than that...
Bought some more chick feed, dog food, frontline, and DE, played with chicks outside, played with kid outside...

The 2 week old learned to bug hunt today. It was so proud of itself! Oh, and it can jump out of the brooder box in the house. It loves to roost already.

The 2-3 day old (Nugget) sleeps a lot. Like an infant. I am a little nervous because it has watery poo. (Think baby poo from breast milk.) I think it might be from it being so hot today. Its crop was full and I checked it later and it was empty. I did put vitamins/electrolytes in the water and have medicated chick start... so am I doing anything wrong? Should I not have the Vit/electro water supplement in there?

Both just crave attention! It is somewhat ridiculous.
BYFM - Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that was the page you linked, teehee...

Mom2 - Also, it is kind of funny to watch her not bark at squirrels. She quivers from ears to tail, you can see the bark trying to escape!
No prob! I thought it was funny... Hey, must be good advise!
That sounds so cute! Too bad that she had to endure that treatment.

Glad she has a good home!

I don't remember who suggested it...

Those zip-lock bags half full of water are actually keeping the flies out of my coop.
I'm going to hang them everywhere.
That would be me.... I can't believe it works!!!

I think I have to apologize to my MIL...

HI!!!!
Don't trust her Katie! She is trying to create a new breed and infect all chicken owners with uggo-itis.
I HAVE IT!! I HAVE IT!!!!

I forgot, my big mackerel that I had butchered, the Mayan cross that stood tall as my knee, 7.82 pounds. Told ya'll he was a huge one.
Holy moly!!! That is a biggin!
They look like this, almost as bad as uggos (vultures).
I am not sure I could get past the face...

The sun will be up in about an hour and it will be bringing lots warmth with it. So much warmth that by afternoon it is going to be down right uncomfortable. The humidity is 80% and with temps in the 90's it might be advisable to get everything done this morning and kick back this afternoon.

I was just catching up on posts before my nap.... I see that byfm quoted me about a big mackerel. Stupid touch pad.... That should be cockerel... But my TP wants it to say mackerel.and its. Marans cross... Not Mayan... Haha. That is so funny. My Mayan crossed mackerel!

very hot day to come... Yuck.

I'm loving the warm weather, however our humidity hasn't been that high. To be able to be outside at 6:30 and not have to have on an extra layer to stay warm is wonderful! Another busy day ahead.

My crazy two month olds have a coop below their house so it is shaded most of the day. The goofy things go down in the run early in the day and in the evening but in the hottest part of the day I find them in the coop just panting. They won't stay in the run where there is a really nice breeze. The poor dumb things don't make any sense. Yesterday all the grown chickens took to the woods and didn't reappear until it cooled off in the evening. Enjoy your day!

crazy but it works. put 3 fresh fly strips inside the coop, a zip lock in the run over the feeder, flies all gone, got 2 hanging under the 3 season porch and it should bee very nice sitting down their watching the grand kids in the pool today. I even think it is scarring off some of the carpenter bee's that seem to like the treated wood the 3 season is made of

any one have any blue orpington chicks coming to CS?

Good Morning!
Its hot and humid in my house already- Ive still got a houseful of teens/and kids here. Daughter had a siezure last night. Shes okay but I wasnt here and freaked out the friends/neighbor kids. My older daughter is a seizure-pro, moved stuff out of the way, protected her head..called me. timed the seizure. She did a good job.

Grandson should be awake soon. Dont know how he is still sleeping. Hope he doesnt pee the bed. lol.

Im gonna catch these chickens soon and put them in crates for going to RaZs. What time are we all meeting there?

Some of SillyChicken's chickens...
The little black Polish Uggo almost didnt have to worry about being in a stewpot, because right after I took these pictures, he flew to the top of the fence, and my neighbors' foxhound was standing right THERE on the other side-

NotMeatie...

AND- Caught the picture just as he was finishing his crow/choke..

Some yard in progress pics...because someone, I think BYFM, told me to:
This is my little memorial statue. The front reads:
A Special Place
There is a special place in our hearts for those we have loved,
for those who have loved us without question, without a word or promise.
There is a special place where there is no pain or fear, where love flows freely...
There is a special place to rest in our hearts forever.

The view from my bench...even though my bench broke...

My morning glories and sedum..

My broken bench-

one of the caterpillars that have completely eaten the leaves off..

Part of the fence-

Some honeysuckle-
