I'm back for a minute. I know most of you are downstaters but if you have family up this way or like traveling and like horses.... the Bliss Polo field has a tournament this week. Scrimmages and games almost everyday today through next Sunday. Just watching the loads of horses going past is pretty cool. Most are from Georgia but spending the summer in Bliss. Off to the next event.

I dont hatch roos...seems they are becoming roos after being in all you peoples' care....

lol...

I have no idea if its a roo or not. Does it crow? roo. Doesnt crow? not a roo.

Hahaha!!! No, it doesnt crow...yet. April 7th-ish is when you said they hatched right? So it'd be about 12 weeks then. Do they usually crow by now?

By the way, the marans we got from you are doing fabulously!!! The boys named the girls Charlotte and Virgina(don't ask me...lol) and the Roo is Marley. They are so cute with their little peeps they still have. A bit skittish still but they are integrating pretty well with the bantam crew.
Awesome. I have more hatching right now lol. Let me know if you ever need another color of Marans. I have blue, black, and black copper. One of the blue chicks I got from Jerry in Ada is a roo and has a copper neck. He for sure is a keeper lol.

I would also like to add that I bought these blue marans chicks earlier in the year from Jerry in Ada and have not had a single problem with them. He is a heck of a nice guy and I will do more business with him in the future.

The two new girls I got from chickenstock are not being accepted well from my older girls. Poor darlings get pecked at for just sitting still. Will have to go thru this whole ordeal again when the two itty bitty's are big enough to go out in the coop. Oh well, at least they are handling the heat so far.

Hey Swamp... Looks like everyone is out enjoying the day... I got a migraine that I am keeping on the fringes. SUCKS!

Sister update... Things are not going well. She's running a fever and has an infection, not at the incision point, but in the round y procedure area. SO, asking for more prayers.

Yes, it was me. Please don't assume something is my fault! Are you sure it's not something else? Our birds are just fine...seriously...anyone is welcome to come look! I invite anyone to come look! That chick was with 8 others since they hatched and not a single one of them showed signs of illness and still don't.
I don't think she was blaming/assuming it was your fault, Kate, I think she just wanted you to know to be on the safe side. I would want to know if a bird I traded became ill with in a few days of rehoming. We all know what stress can do to birds. I hope yours continue to show no signs of illness.

A bird can be absolutely fine at their usual home. In fact, most birds carry a load of coccidia and whatnot, just not a level that causes disease. But when the birds are stressed by a move, the pathogens get the upper hand because stress weakens the immune system.

That is why quarantine is so important. It gives you at least a few weeks to observe the new bird, and treat if necessary.

I had a lady come today and buy all the eggs I had... She wanted to know if I had any birds she could also buy. ALIVE, and she'd butcher them herself. I told her the meat birds would be ready for that in 2 weeks and she said she didn't want a meat bird, she wanted a production bird. I told her I had roosters in the freezer, be she doesn't want one of those. She wants it live. OMG! She's a Mexican Voodoo Priestess! Just kidding! But really, she wants a live one. Her daughter says they want the whole bird because her mom uses the WHOLE bird for recipes and her gramps like to eat chicken feet. HUH? Is there even enough meat on the feet for eating? Well anyway, I told her to come back in 2 weeks and the neighbors have a cockerel that'd be ready for the butcher.
