I have black copper Marans chicks hatching today wooo hooo. When I lost my rooster, Dan , I gathered eggs from my hens that was in with him and put them under a broody cuckoo Marans. So far there are 5 of them. Sure hope I get one that looks like Dan.

Excited I'm going to the Identity Festival @ Elektricity Festival Grounds!!

I was just out with the chickens and the SLW decided to mount Crispy, (my BO). She gave a squawk and Broaster (dominant BSL) body slammed the young roo. He tried again with Broiler and even Broaster with no luck. He fumbles like a high school boy at prom.

Now that the youngsters have reached 20 weeks of age, how likely is it that they may actually be mature enough to reproduce? I have until Thursday before the roos go to freezer camp and I wonder if they will have time to fertilize the older hens or even the young pullets.

This is a total newbie question, but I wonder if I can get viable hatching eggs in the next few days.

Back from the MIL's reunion and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Quite frankly, I enjoyed it...some good old stories where heard. The kids even found some of them enjoyable. The oldest person was 97 years old.
her gramps like to eat chicken feet. HUH? Is there even enough meat on the feet for eating?

I do not remember this but my brothers said that after my GF would do his slaughtering, he'd go into a nearby town he frequented while on his egg route and sell the feet. Apparently the folks would deep fry them? Doesn't sound appetizing to me but to each their own.

I used to think that family reunions were a PITA. Then one year I drove back with an Uncle (Mom's brother) and heard stories of the family during the drive. Some were BS and some were heart-felt memories of a different time. All in all, it was a history lesson filled with heroes and villains, love and hate and an overall sense of familiar unity.

Some of those story tellers are gone now. Those tales might not mean much to most people, but they are the fertilizer for the roots that I have put down.

Got the water containers all scrubbed & sanitized and the shed organized. Poor Shelby, he's coming into manhood and none of the big girls want a thing to do with him.
Someone posted about their roo getting chested bumped & all....Raz? Anyway the big girls have their backs covered & he's having very little luck. He has to be sneaky about it. If he does mount and one of the others see they come running to the rescue. Girls of a feather stick together ! lol

Agreed......"You always go back to where your roots were planted!"

You need to get right on that lamb and I knew what you was saying LOL. I just don't want certain people pm'ing other people if someone gets birds from me like they do Jerry from Ada. I'm not into that kind of thing. It's not right and so I just want no mistakes made here with my birds.
BTW - Just got supper over with. You? Hahahaha
Robin, my little bird did die. The Icee's I got from you are fine, oh and by the way very loud!! They just sing away like no ones business. I hope I didn't upset you I was trying to remember where I got it from so she would know what happened so she can watch her other birds. It was funny that morning the bird seemed fine to me eating, drinking walking around etc....I came outside after being in the house for a few hours and she was lying on her side in the sun for some reason, strange.

teeville, was going to ask you, did you stop on Lincoln lake on the way home from work . some time last yr.?. another carrier walking on the street looking for something? If so that was me. had hit a deer in the AM and was looking to see if I could find it. didn't hit it hard, think it ran off.

how is your son? hope the damage to his hand wasn't bad.

No, that wasn't me. I work with another carrier who lives in Greenville so maybe it was her.
My son's okay. He refused to go get his hand looked at so I had to clean it up and take care of it for him. Good thing I don't get too squeamish around blood. Anyway, his cuts are looking better today so I must have done okay which is good considering how they initially looked.

Yes they are loud. I have one hen that sings all day long LOL. I'm glad they are fine. Just watch them because if it is cocci it usually spreads. But it is treatable.
