I'm really sorry if I hurt your feelings. I didn't mean to hurt you or offend you. Just stating a fact, and I guess you don't know me and took it the wrong way. You asked for advice and I gave it. I can be blunt sometimes. I just got excited when I read you were just feeding them scratch with treats. Scratch is a treat. The fact is, you are messing up their clocks and they are not getting nutrition they need. So, please, just take the advice given and do what you want with it. I really am a nice person.
You'll see if and when we meet.
Rose is a super nice person,
I think she was just in a hurry to help you! I have a friend that also feed cracked corn as main food and I have tried and tried to tell her that is why she doesn't get the eggs she should, but that is all they ever fed chickens when she was growing up, so she thinks that is all they should have. Well, to each his own. However, I get twice the amount of eggs she does.
Also, if you do some reading, it is important for chickens to have enough light and also enough dark to regulate their internal clocks. So while you are trying to be nice to your chickens, they will be fine in the dark and actually need it to be dark to sleep well. Just like most people wouldn't sleep well with the lights on and eventually it would affect their health because they weren't getting enough good rest.
Great thing about BYC, it is a wealth of info and we are always learning!!
Thanks, Vicki, I needed that! I feel bad that I hurt LMC feelings. I hope she forgives me and we can go on and be friends.
