I too love the smell of a horse neck. My mare always seems to know when I've had a bad day and will wrap her head around and kind of "hug" me with her neck when I go in for a long sniff.

Ooopsy -- Beautiful bird! I can't wait to see some pictures of your mid-winter hatches. How exciting!

I must say they make me want to start up a bator as well. Can ya drop me a line if you ever decide to sell some hatching eggs. I have Dorkings right now and Orps. But these would be a nice addition.

Now I sound like Sam and will have to build a couple of more coops LOL.

I find myself very excited for you.

well I'm off to White lake to do a couple jobs a JCP.

Good morning all. Collin's 10th Birthday today and the poor kid is home sick. The chickens are loving the work we did in their coop and run new sod, new dirt, and new bugs and worms.
Ooopsi those chickens are beautiful.

I thought it would be a pain in the butt to have chicks around again. When I discovered last week that one of my BR hens hatched out five of them, I figured I would have to dig out the brooder and set it up and have to deal with the dust and mess in the house again. I have found that it is much easier to let the chicken do all the work. When the chicks are cold, they just go under the hen and come out when they warm up. They follow her around eating what she scratches up and all I have to do is fill up the chick waterer because they cant reach the big one.

There is so much information on brooding chicks and it is so precise in regards to temperature, food, etc... From now on I am just going to let the hen do all the work. She knows more about it than I do, and the chicks are thriving with minimal help from me.

Morning all! It's feeling like fall out there finally. (Not that I would have minded a few more weeks of Summer

)

I'm falling apart. I seem to have just about kicked the cold/sinus/flu thing only to wake up this morning with a huge chip out of one of my teeth. I have NO idea how it happened. I still have all my wisdom teeth and it's actually a chip out of the top of my top right one. The bottom of the tooth is in tact, but there's a big hole in the side of the tooth right at the gum. How does that even happen???

So far *knock on wood* it doesn't hurt.

BUT I despise going to the dentist. Never minded it until the past couple of years for reasons unbeknownst to me my teeth have gone to h-e-l-l in a handbasket and I've just come to dread going in. I know they're going to find something else wrong -- they always do lately. And my jaw always aches after going in to have whatever it is fixed. SO, I feel like a total wimp but I called a dentist in the neighboring town that does sedation dentistry about becoming a patient. Have an appointment on next monday for a consult. Hopefully this hole doesn't start hurting before then.

That's why I love my broody hen....she does all the work!

I raised some chicks in the basement this spring...it was fun but at the same time it was a little more stressful than I had imagined...checking the temp, moving the lamp around, check for pasty butts, fill feeders and waterers.....guess mother really does know best.

I would suspect you grind your teeth while sleeping. I had to have my wisdom teeth pulled at the age of 40 because of it. For some reason I started grinding my teeth bad at night. Once they well pulled, all 4 at the same time. I stopped grinding. Grinding your teeth can cause all kinds of problems.

Good luck at the dentist. Im very lucky, I have one of the best dentist in the world. He even calls you from home the night he works on you to make sure you arent in any pain. He's a god send for sure. Metamora Dental Center on M24

I definitely grind my teeth at night and during the day I clamp my jaw very tightly -- only when I'm stressed though. Unfortunately, since I work full-time, go to school full-time, have kids, a husband, a house, animals, etc, etc, etc I'm pretty much stressed ALL of the time. Usually when a semester ends and there is a short break before the next begins it takes about a week and then all of the sudden my jaw muscles just KILL. I don't even realize I am grinding and clamping until I de-stress and relax. I mean, I know I do it. But I'm not aware of how much I do it until afterwards. I relax those muscles and then they HURT. They heal just in time for the next semester to start, usually.

The most frustrating part is that I brush, floss and rinse twice daily -- religiously. Stay away from sugar drinks, foods, etc. My husband? Lives on candy, donuts, regular soda, etc. Runs a toothbrush over his teeth twice a day, never flosses, only rinses on special occasions and has NEVER had an issue. I think in the 10 years we've been together he has had one TINY cavity.

Your dentist sounds wonderful. I really think a big part of my issue with the dentist lately is the staff. My old hygienist quit and the new one is .... not nice. I feel like she doesn't believe me that I'm taking care of my teeth even though she says they're clean, my technique looks good, etc it just seems whenever she finds an issue there's an undertone of disapproval. I'm not generally one to be sensitive to this kind of stuff, but I suppose this has just become one of those things. Well... here's hoping this new dentist does the trick. His receptionist was wonderful over the phone. We'll see...
