Hiya ganders -

Ok, my dad was all set to go get 6 Delaware pullets for me ... from a lady about an hour away. I made arrangements with her a couple days ago....but I told dad to call her before he left just to make sure nothing had come up...and she remembered our arrangements...so he did. Well, I got a call from him at work today and he was at the lady's house...and said "you'd better talk to her....."..

Well, she got on the phone and told me that the delawares had come down with a "cold" and had been sneezing and had crappy looking eyes..but it just started yesterday....they were on some antibiotic, and she was sure they'd be fine if we continued the medicine for another 5 days...

. Needless to say, dad came home empty handed......I could not believe that she didn't say anything to my father when he called her BEFORE he made the trip!.....She said she'd give me a call in a week or so to let me know how they were doing...and maybe we could still make the deal....but I'm not sure I want them. What a hassle....We owe my dad a big meal or something....he wouldn't take gas $$...Sure would like to add a couple or 3 Dellies before winter...but I don't know.

All this hassle and a neighbor has Buff Orp and White Rock pullets less than a mile away.....what a great decision I made going for those Delawares....jeesh!

Several reasons why I can't go, but one of them is RIRJen is having her daughter's birthday party Saturday at 11:30!! Can you believe it??? She FORGOT it was fowlfest!!

WELL I am getting even with her!! I am giving her daughter a kitten and a pair of serama's for her birthday!!

In my defense, they mentioned possibly wanting a kitten and her daughter loves to play with the serama's when she comes over!! She is old enough for 4-H now and all they have are big chickens, I think she needs some little chickens for her very own, don't you????

Oh, forgot to mention, we found the kitten almost starved in our ditch two days ago! Man I could just smack some people! Skin and bones, covered with fleas, friendly, knows how to use a litter box, used to dogs and kids, it was someones pet and they dumped it in the country! No older than 8 weeks!

what a icky day, they say it going to be nice this weekend, I hope so.

Well I hope to see some of you tomorrow morning, hopefully we will get there about 9:00 or 9:30

Hello Michigan. I just finished up probably the hardest couple days of my life. My wife and I dropped off our oldest son yesterday to ship out to Navy boot camp. Very emotional couple days. He is now in Chicago at boot and will soon be out there protecting our freedom. I am a very proud poppa!

Quick question for you guys. How are you keeping waterers from freezing in the winter. I con't want to wait until the last minute to resolve this issue.

Our chickens are doing very well other than one hen occasionally laying soft eggs. And the wellie hens are starting to lay some really nicely colored eggs.

Larry- Thank you for your and your family's sacrifice so your son can defend our country. I really appreicate it

For waterers in the winter and summer we use ice cream pails. We are home all day and the kids go out every so many hours depending on the temp outside and we rotate with fresh buckets while the frozen ones thaw.
The kids enjoy this cause they get to eat icecream to keep up with the demand

For Fowl Fest- we are showing poultry and leaving here at 5:30am it is a 1 1/2 hour drive there. The lobster fest sounds excellent, but not in the budget with 5 kids in tow.
