LMAO

I was born in Carson. It is my idea of heaven out that way lol cant get hubby on board to move there though....gas prices etc too far to drive to work. I say it is worth every penny. My brother still lives in pewamo.....is hard to come home here after visiting there lol my heart aches for the country.

Oh my word! Have you spent much time in Carson? My mom and dad are both from there. I love it up there and miss it a lot. What a small world! We used to sometimes take 127 to 57 to Carson and other times we would take the back roads , different ways through Pewamo, Fowler, Matherton (don't blink) and Hubbardston! My dad grew up on a farm on what was the NW corner of 127 and 57, till they moved to town. My mom grew up on the edge of Carson. Are your parents from Carson, maybe we are related?

too funny. Nope....i dont think we are related but you never know. I was born in Carson, but lived in Pewamo all my life. My mom was born and raised and died in Pewamo....my dad was from Portland and Ionia thru the years.....they would be in their late 80's now.....at least my dad would be my mom would be in early 80's.....they are both burried in the cemetery right before you get to Matherton lol yeah dont blink for sure.

I went to school with most of the folks of my generation from Matherton.....lol pw was a way combined school district lol and my great aunt lived in Hubbardston lol

What a riot! My mom lived for a while in Ithica, after many years in Lansing. She now lives near me, in Somerset Center. I am outside of Jerome, at Lake LeAnn. I know what you mean about living in the country. I feel better looking at woods and fields, but... I think "country" is a state of mind, too- you will feel better when you get some chickens! How did you guys end up in Lansing?

Country is definately a state of mind. I am counting on my chicks helping with that lol

We ended up in lansing based on a "3 to 5 yr plan" in this house lmao we are now in our 10th yr. We were supposed to build our equity and get out but life had other plans.

we ended up caring for my father, and having our kids set us back a bit financially....job changes, life changes etc.....so here we are....in a sick housing market and a nation that is struggling along with us....I just keep dreaming country....it will come to me one way or another!

But those are the experiences that also make me want to live in a simple way, self sufficiently, growing our own food, veggies and otherwise....and hopefully off the grid as far as power goes too. I want my kids to know how to survive especially as times may get even tougher!!

I have similar concerns, Shar. I am hoping to put in a garden next year. We have little over an acre, mostly wooded. I wish we had more land, but glad for what we have. The lake across the road is a plus... fish, water, etc. How old are your kids, if you don't mind my asking? We have 5, from 25 on down to 11.

My daughter is 9 and my son is 7. I also have a 20 yr old step daughter. I am putting in several square foot gardens this next spring. i got back into canning veggies this fall just to show myself i can still do it. I have been having a blast doing things old fashioned way.

I canned for the first time this year. I am asking for a pressure cooker (if we can afford one) for Christmas. Looking on ebay, etc. I did freeze beans, but not really happy with how they came out. They look nice, but are kind of soggy.
