I used to do some "bear guiding" on our farm up north, I used a Ruger redhawk .44 mag as a backup. A charging bear don't give much time to let you get them in your sights ( so I'm told)

Usually we would get 2-3 bear each year, they liked to eat our calves and so did the coyotes if we didn't get to them in time or the cow had problems after birthing.

ROAST SKUNK

1 skunk, scent bag removed
2 sliced carrots
1 c. clear soup
1 tsp. onion juice

Dissolve 1 bouillon cube in 1 cup hot water. Skin, clean, and remove scent bag from skunk. Parboil in salted water 15 minutes. Drain off water. Then place meat in fresh water and steam until tender, about 1 hour. Transfer to roasting pan and put in oven at 375 degrees. Add 1 cup of clear soup, 2 sliced carrots and 1 teaspoon of onion juice and cook uncovered for 2 hours.

Faverolles, RIR, EE's, Orps, Marans,White Leghorns, Buttercups & Delawares. then the other two coops i have now will be mixed flock for eggs.

I just found this forum yesterday and this Michigan thread today! I was reading it from the beginning and then realized it is two years old. So I skipped to the end. Didn't read all 300+ posts so I'm sure I missed much.

I live south of Grand Rapids, near Gun Lake. I have 7 RIR hens giving me 4-5 eggs a day. I want to try the Freedom Ranger birds from J&M Hatcheries? in PA. as my broilers this summer and hope to keep a few around to raise more chicks so I don't have to keep buying them from the hatcheries. Last year I raised Cornish X from Townline Hatcheries in Zeeland. They were great with no problems. Just looking for a free range type of meat bird.

Right now I have a Jersey cow for milk, and a calf for the freezer, two horses, three dogs, a crazy cat, five pet parrots. When spring rolls around we're going to raise a pig or two, maybe a couple of turkeys and hubby wants to try his hand at pheasants!?!

Carl was my nickname as a kid and it stuck, but I'm Carla in real life. Nice to meet you and can I just say.....

Oh, and we've raised a couple of baby squirrels up too, but let 'em go for someone else to make stew.

Hi Carla, one of my best friends lives near you. Right by the Mullenhurst golf course. Nice area over there, we like to go to Sams joint and we went to "The Bib" once.....that was a shocker.
