I posted in man flock but am feeling impatient. My fatehered footed breeds that are between 7/9(mail order arrived last sunday) days old are all smaller then everything else in brooder. they are dieing off one every now and then. Could it be simply that they are to small to be in with the big boys. 2 still here want to protect

OK, give me a week to steal a few ( the gander will kill me if he catches me

and then I'll PM you and arrange to visit you some time next week, if it is all right with you. I do not specifically want anything in return for them. I'll need some chickens in a month or two, but then I'll have meat rabbits to trade

Will you have barred rocks or delawares then?

Man did it ever rain hard here, then changed to a light drizzle, back to hard, and now back to drizzle. I'm sure with my luck when I go out to do bedcheck Blue the former housechicken and her new buddy will be locked out and as soon as I go into the run to catch them the sky will open back up again.

OOL how much older and larger are the other breeds in the brooder. It takes very little difference in size for piling to cause death of smaller birds.

They were seeming ok at about 10.30 food water change then at about 2 found laynig leg out face down. Did not look smushed but was getting walked on as I was moving to get him out. 3rd one ofsame breed.

Yeah like eating all the chicken out of soup, or chochlate chunks in ice cream. We do that here all the time.

I went to the Grand Rapids Home and Garden Show at the DeVos Place today. There were lots of great remodeling ideas -- and I got TONS of coupons for local greenhouses.

Did anyone else in West Michigan check that out this weekend?

well, when a chick 'expires' the others will walk on it. they don't even think about it.

what temp is your brooder heated up to? it may too cold or too hot and there could be some huddling gone wrong. any animal that has it's ribcage smashed for 2 minutes is going to suffocate.

Sorry about the dieing chicks...check temp, draft, etc. I have raised bantams and LF chicks together, no problems.

I am off to get ready to go out to dinner with a friend of mine...

I have been cleaning all day! 9 garbage bags of clothes and shoes to donate. All but 2 bags are going to Honduras in 2 weeks. I dont think the folks down there need snowpants and winter boots.

Have a great evening everyone! I am going to eat way too much!
