I'M from Michigan Benton Harbor area, Moved to AZ years ago, however I like to stay in touch with Mich. BYC folks. I lived on a farm and would buy 200 mixed chicks at a time, some for meat and some for eggs. My kids had pet chickens but I never did at that time. Now that I am retired, kids all married and moved al over the country, I decided to get some chickens, started with 2, within two weeks I had 10, all pets. I have stumbled on to BYC, I am so loving to talk to people from all over, as well as AZ . I have learned so much from this Forum, and have seen some really great coops, Runs and some wonderful chicken pictures.
IF any one is from the Benton Harbor Saint Joe area please post.
Just a michigan old farmer
Take cover everyone! I just got word that there is a terrible storm coming our way.
Per the Weather channel:
Severe thunderstorms produce damaging wind in excess of 60 mph, destructive hail, deadly lightning, and very heavy rain. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business. Heavy rains flood roads quickly so do not drive into areas where water covers the road.
Ok, guys, I complain about extreme cold and extreme heat also. It just seems we're always want what we don't got!
I'm certainly no saint!
Gosh, I melt in this humidity! Why bother with make-up!!
The bad storm?? It rained here for 5 min, a thunder or two and it's gone. Cool, now I don't have to water the gardens before I leave for Traverse City tomorrow. It's makes me laugh how the weather people get on and tell us about the bad storms. Duh! We've been thru them and know what rain and wind is!
My hubby just phoned and he's in Macomb over by M-59/Van Dyke area. They are completely without power, winds and hail and rain so bad that part of the building bowed in, 6 power lines were ripped out of the ground. Wow, guess they got it!
hi all.... been real busy this week not much time for BYC caus eI am watching 2 more kids for the summer and they were here all week (mom is a nurse on like a 3 on 4 off , so some weeks I may only have them 2 days and others is 4) but they are friends of mine and it helps them out and our family out so it is not too bad and the kids (plus my 4) help out in the chicken chores and weeding the garden, they love to help plant different plants
Wow the storm was awful. We are in Monroe county. I came in fast. I ran out with an umbrella in lightning to close the windows on the coop. Rain was coming in almost sideways. Got back in the house and 10 minutes later my husbands pager for the fire dept. goes off. Tornado warning for our county funnel cloud spotted near Maybee. We live near Maybee. Opened the door to look outside and everything was still and quite. That got me, the kids, and dogs down to the basement. Luckily it passed and didn't touch down. Saw on the news you folks north of us had flash flood warnings. I don't mind the summer storms till my husbands pager goes off. Hope everyone faired well in the storms.
Hi everyone. Guess what we had for dinner tonight? Our very first meatie of the year. I took 30 of my CX to Wilcox's last night and picked them up this afternoon. I was afraid that the birds would be tough eating on the same day they were processed, but the kids begged. I cut it up and threw it on the grill with some Sweet Baby Rays. Yummy!
Hope everyone survived the heat wave. It was not fun working outside in the nursery! I kept running over to the fountains and dipping a cloth in to place around my neck. The customers probably thought I was crazy, but it is about 10 degrees warmer under the nursery roof than it is in the parking lot. Go figure!
Good morning everyone. Looks like it will be a little cooler today. Thank goodness it is Friday. All the family wil be coming in for the big Famiy reunion that my Mom ans Aunts put together. Busy, busy, busy.
Steve cute pigletts.
Did everyone hear that Micheal Jackson died. I thought my husband was pulling my leg. I havn't been a fan since Thriller and Beat It. Later in life he got wierd. But he did make history with his music.
