This weekend my DH put up a divider in our meat chicken's pen for the little welsummer, he had been camping out in my den. We got him put out in his pen and the next morning I opened up the door to the meaties and there was "Elliott" looking at me. I don't know how he got in with the meaties but I was suprised to see him there. After all that work my DH did too..

Good morning Dottie!
We used to get our pig feed cheaper from the Amish years ago. Don't know if that helps but hopefully someone else can help.
Did I see a post that you were going to chickenstock?

Morning! No more stinky gross egg smell in my house this moring

haha

Vicki and I are talking about the Eaton County Fair in Charlotte,MI. It's usually a nice sized fair and the small animal sale this coming saturday usually has some nice stock in it.

I look forward to meeting you. I hope you can get help finding cheaper feed. How many meat birds do you have? We have 21 plus an extra Barred Rock roo and an EE roo that is Trouble so they are going into the stew pot.
Just went out and fed the chickens and somehow Elliott got out of his pen and with the meaties again. I guess he just don't want to sleep alone. I don't blame him, it was only 43 degrees this morning.

Jenny, glad the smell is gone. A couple years ago DH was leaving for work [3rd shift] and he took the dog out first, to be nice, but then he yelled to me "Pippin got sprayed by a skunk, I'm going to work!" My house smelled bad for weeks, plus I was going to Grand Rapids with my sister the next day and..... I smelled like a skunk!

I told my DH not to be so nice to me anymore.

'Morning, All.

chickenstock is getting closer.... as is my next dog show.

I need to be finding recipes for the baking to be done for the county fair.

Hope no one gets rotten egg or skunk smell in their house or on their dog or on them today!

Good Morning all! Had a very busy week end with family. Also went to the David Cook concert in Chesaning. The concert was great, but what a disappointment otherwise. Use to have so much to do, craft shows, car shows, someone bbq-ing steaks, the showboat coming down the river with lots of hoop-la. NOTHING!! I mean NOTHING! Just the concert. No one even announced the opening band, or David Cook. They just appeared on stage! What a let down. But, at least the opening act..Need to Breathe and David Cook were great. Hope you all have a great day.

Dottie -- I would look for a grain elevator. That's where I get my laying mash. It costs me 8.25 for a fifty pound bag and that's with tax. It is made locally and has 18% protein. Sometimes there's a little sunflower thrown in, too. I'm getting some meat chickens from MJ and sounds like they do have a feed for meaties, too. I've also been to the Amish bulk store and their laying mash was 16.25 for 100 pounds. I didn't look for a grower price, though. Didn't need to compare at that time! Now I probably will. Good luck in your search!
