Good morning all, at least it will be morning in a couple of more hours. Granny's dog decided she needed to go outside and I couldn't believe how bright the moon is. Sure is pretty and if it wasn't the middle of the night I could probably appreciate it alot more.

Good morning. I got up around 3:30/ 4am because I thought I had overslept. The moon was so bright soming in the window that I thought it was the sun around 6am. Too bad I couldn't go back to sleep. At least I got most of the chores already done.

Good morning. We went to our local fair last night. The boys loved it. I relized I missed my goat that passed away last winter. I was disapointed in the poultry barn. It was almost all cornish x, BBW turkeys and meat ducks. There was only a handful of other types of chickens. They lumped them together to. Like clean legged bantams and feather legged, no breeds to show. Is this how most fairs do it? I never went into the poultry barn before due to I am actuall allergic to feathers. LOL. Now I have chickens of my own.

Got home from the fair last night and went out to lock up the coop and did my usual count and I was missing my little Bourbon Red girl. I was so upset. I got my husband outside with a flashlight no feathers, no broken fence, all the other and chickens and turkeys were fine. She just disapeared. I was so worried. When I went out this morning to open the coop I could hear a turkey. There she was calling everyone and walking back n forth in front of the gate to get back in. I was so happy to see her. Silly turkey.

I like the coop Hillbilly. You just can't beat $2.00.

Wow---they didn't have hardly any "show" chickens? At the Tuscola county fair there were at least 70 cages of different breeds of chickens---both bantam and large size. Our Shadow had 9 entries in his clean legged, single comb bantam division alone. There were 20 market turkey and 22 roaster chicken trio entries too. At our fair, for the kids to be able to auction off their market birds they also have to enter into the showmanship classes. This was done because some kids were doing the market birds to make $$, but were not taking care of their birds or doing any of the work needed to help out in the poultry barn. They felt if the kids were made to do the showmanship, they would actually be doing the work needed to learn about their projects and be more involved. I know that each county fair does things differently, but it seems weird (well, truthfully, wrong) that there were no breed entries and they were all lumped together!!!! They are losing out on an opportunity for people to learn about poultry.

Morning all ...

I woke up to 3 screaming goats because they saw someone jogging down the road and decided THAT was the person who should feed them this morning...

So I had to go outside and throw some hay at them to make them happy. I think they've got me trained pretty well.

One of my rabbits is about to pop...she's only got 4 more days left and she looks like she's smuggling a basketball in her belly LOL.

Vicki... I CAN NOT find that pass to the fair so I guess we'll see what they say at the gate. Hannah is all excited to go with you guys and actually have someone to ride the rides with!

I don't usually post here. I am on my fourth day of my vacation from work and it really stinks having a vacation and be totally broke! I have been doing some free things tho. Our county fair is next week and I am back to work. My work schedule makes it almost totally impossible to attend. I have to wait till sat to go (the fairs last day). Our poultry barn is very nice. A few years ago they completely re-did the livestock mall! I remember when the rabbits had to share the poultry barn! We have quite a few birds, a lot are bantam and purebred, not to many of the barnyard stock (ie Barred Rocks and buffs).

I am disapointed tho our fair isn't like it was in the past, there isn't half as many booths as there was in the past. I suspose this is due the fairs uping the booth rental fees! We have a miricle of life tent where there are animals due to give birth are already had. They always have chicks in incubators. There was even talk of tearing up our grandstand and harness racing track! This track is very old and in the past ( I am meaning the 1800's) have had very famous horses run on it (again I am talking 1800's). I hate to see harness racing eliminated. Most people who run the fair circut are family own horses and a lot of horses are owned and trained and sometimes even driven by the same person!

Good morning all. I am getting a late start today. I was up till almost 2 am.

Our fair is next week also. And the rabbits and poultry are together in the same barn. They usually have a lot of different kinds of poultry there. The youngest kids who do showmanship will use stuffed animals so it's kind of funny to walk by and see a stuffed bunny or chicken in a cage.

It funny how things will turn out. I just got a call from a guy who used to work for me when I was on the fire department. I couldn't stand him, he has a real abrasive personality. A couple of years after I retired he asked me to build a house for him and I reluctantly did so. Turns out that his abrasive blustering attitude is to hide the fact that he really is a very nice sensitive person. I have since built a second house for him and he has become a treasured friend.
He just called to tell me that he is driving of Caseville to see his parents and saw someone put 2 incubators next to their trash at the road. He stopped, talked with the guy who said that he had gotten them for his daughters and they didn't want to mess with hatching chicks anymore so he was throwing them out. Mike said he doesn't know what kind they are but they have glass tops. He will bring them to me Sunday or Monday. I anxious to see if they are trash or treasure.

Opa, I recently mended fences with an abrasive neighbor. Caring for a disabled grandchild took a little bit of steam out of her engine & taught her ALOT of empathy. She even brought her grandkids over to play with our rabbits. It is lovely to see the good in people.
