My little wellie is still hanging in there, she is eating and I saw her standing up. She is still weak and shakey. I was wondering if she could have eaten a poisoned ant? DH was doing some digging outside last week and then we started getting carpenter ants in the den where the chicks are. On Friday I stuck ant bait in the den closet. But I never saw any ants in their tote. I feel so bad thinking that I might have made her sick.

Thanks so much for the warm welcomes, everyone!

Sarah, I feel bad for Rachel losing her pullet. Until I had chickens, I never knew how attached you could get to them and what great pets they are. I just may take you up on a chick if I end up with a lonely one, and I might be making a trip to Fowlerville this weekend. What kind of bantams does she have in her 'bator?

Where do you find the cute cartoon-ish smilies everybody uses? I just have nine basic ones showing on my toolbar.

Hello Michigan Friends.

I have to say I took a hiatus for awhile as things have been insanely busy for us. Not to mention I was trying to avoid the temptations I always have here. That is not a bad thing though.

MJ - You better take care of yourself lady!! I missed a lot, but sounds like you are ok, so take it easy. August is winding down and we still haven't made it back to see you yet. Let me know how things are so we can get together again.

I actually found a 12x12 shed for free on craigslist. I picked it up this past weekend, and wouldn't you know, from another BYC'er. We started talking chickens and he mentioned MJ, and it was all over from there. Hilarious, and small world it is. Not sure his username here, but his name is Ryan from Clio. Great guy, and if you read this, thanks again.

Hope everyone is doing good here, and enjoying what is left of summer. See ya.

Hi everyone! We took another set of birds to be processed today. I can't wait to get these guys in the freezer. If anyone is interested I am willing to trade garden veggies, fruits, etc for processed birds. Just send me a PM.

Yummy!

Hey all,
Been gone for too long, had our third child and growing the flock took a back seat. Unfortunately this spring we had a problem with predators so I am left with only my 3 at my house in the burbs. Hope next year to reinforce defenses, surround the chicken pen with goats and go from there. Hope all is well with everyone.

Thank you! I love Cochins - I have but one, a white cockerel named Joey who is in charge of a flock of standard-sized hens. I have pipping going on - I can see two beaks and hear some peeping. I'm a bit concerned because one has been pipping since about 9:00 a.m. without much progress. Is this normal?
