Hillbilly Rooster - Good for you! I am teaching a college class & some of my students are nearly my age & gosh(!) they inspire me. Re-training is the the future of Michigan! I was what they call a "non-traditional" student (older) and I know that we are smart and have alot to contribute. I wish you well.

Hey All! DD & I will be at Fowlfest. I have some nice birds to show. My big issue is that the birds I have to sell are all roosters.

I hate to bother to coop them in. I have an Ameraucana and three silkie cockerals. I would be happy, dappy to give them to a BYCer.

Zephyr - my thoughts are with you & your recovery.

I afraid that no matter how hard we rail against it, winter will soon be upon us. I went yesterday and bought a new snowblower. Hopefully I won't need to use it do often but if the Farmers Almanac is right it will get a lot of use. I used to love winter and all of the cold weather activities but in the last few years it has lost much of it's attraction. I'm looking forward to Saturday when we attend Fowl Fest. We went last year and it was nice to see so many birds. Hopefully, this year, we will meet up with many of our fellow BYCers.

Once again, I read about everyone going to events down state and I wish that I lived closer. Clubs in or around UP doesn't hold events like Fowl Fest. Last weekend, the closest I got was a swap meet which had a million rabbits, 6 ducks, and 2 nasty looking roos!

Good Morning,

Boyd and Zephyr, My prayers are with you and yours.

Hillbilly, CONGRATS on going back to school. I have been thinking about taking some classes myself.

Update on Jr. my Roo,

I dont know if this is the calm before the storm, or not? Time will tell. Yesterday I called my vet to question him about what to do for him. He told me that chickens and Turkeys do not reproduce mussle well and if Jr had damage that the most humane thing to do, is put him down. Then remarks, But I know you and you're going to make this bird well. So here is what I want you to do:

Give him olive oil from a syringe or eye dropper, give him as much as he will swallow over a period of about 1/2 hour. (what a job that was!) Then get Tetracycline 100 mg injectable and give it orally 2 times a day at 5-10mg per pound of weight for 7 days.

So I tell him that Id already gave him 1 cc of penicillin injectable in the breast. He said to stop that as the tetracycline is more compatible for this situation. (I have no clue why?)

So last night about 10pm walking down the hallway from the bathroom is JR. He walks over to the dog dish and starts eating the dogs dry food and also drank some water. I was jumping for joy as I never thought Id see the day that he ate again. I gave him a bit more olive oil and put him back in the bottom half of the airline crate for the night and he stayed there until 7am this morning. So right now typing to you all, he's right under the kitchen table on top of my foot and just crowed. YIPPPEEE

I never thought there would be a day, that a live chicken lived in my house. And thank gosh for newspaper and paper towels LOL

I wish you all a blessed day!! Im off to the Ann Arbor V.A. to take a veteran for some testing.

Way to go Ooopsy! You are quite the nurse. What a lucky roo!

I've decided to get the Delawares....my brother wants some, too so we'll split the gas $$. AND I talked my retired father into making the 2 hr round trip to bring back 6 pullets....this will be interesting as he is NOT a chicken person....

Oopsy, I am so happy that your roo is doing better.

Chickinlickin, you will have to post pictures of your new flock. Can't wait to see.

Today I feel a little more alive than I have for the past three weeks. My house is a disaster as I have only been able to fix meals, wash didhes and take care of the chickens. So i have plenty to catch up on. I also got a call last week to make a dog jacket. I think that I will get the dog jacket made first and then start going on the housework.

Cristy, sorry that you are not able to attend these things. I won't be able to go either. Too much to do around here.

Opa, I think I am actually looking forward to winter this year, I am tired and ready for things to slow down a bit for me.

Good Morning!

Last of the grapes are done. I made jelly this morning. Apples are cooking on the stove.
Kids are taking a break from the textbooks and doing some P.E. for a few minutes.

Opa- I saw your snow blower, it looks like a cadallic of snow blowers

Wow, hang on to your hat when you go out to check on your birds. That wind sure makes in feel much colder then it actually is. Be glad when daylight gets here so I can see just what kind of day I have in store.

If anyone needs any trees or bushes check out Lowes. David and I bought a bunch of blueberry, raspberry, and grapes plants for half off. The also have flowering plants for up to 90% off.
