Good morning everyone. I havn't been on in a while. Opening day today. Here is hoping good luck to all the hunters. We only have 2 lbs. of venison burger left in the freezer. I sure hope my husband get a deer.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

yesterday's parenting seminar with Focus on the Family was awesome! I got a few books and am inspired to try a few new approaches.

OPA- your christmas lights looked very nice as we drove by last night. the kids were disappointed they were off when we left the piano performance around 8:30pm.

Chilly out but glad that the rain isn't here like the weatherman said!

For those that went to the Ohio Nationals- my friend is down there with her son showing and she said it was at least double the size of building as Frankenmuth and wall to wall birds! She called last night to let me know that her son got 1st place in Showmanship for the 7-9 age group out of 20 kids. I am so proud of Billy. Rachel was quite surprised too since she worked with him on how to do showmanship at Frankenmuth.
Where ever we go we will find people that don't have the same standards as we do for our feathered friends. Some may not be as high up in the genetic pool or just ignorant about chickens. But either way, all we can do is take a deep breath and try to remain calm when explaining your problem with them. I heard a good quote recently " Don't argue with a stupid person, people walking past might not be able to tell who is and who isn't stupid"

I hope everyone has a great afternoon!

Sarah

Today was a long day in the woods. Saw 1 small buck and 2 does. We have got too much standing corn all around us so the deer stayed in it. My friend got a fair 7 point and found a 140 class 9 point that someone had tried to poach. It had a bullet hole in its neck and had been dead long enough to smell pretty bad. Never have been able to understand how anyone could be proud of a deer they had poached. For the last several years I have been seeing any trophy sized bucks in my area. This find confirms my suspicions as to what has been happening.

Sarah, thanks for the compliment on the lights. I've got to get the timers coordinated and later this week I will be adding 3 lighted deer. The buck's head moves back and forth. Kinda of cool. Hopefully Hope's grandkids like it.

Morning all..

Well saw two shooters- First one we have called Hi boy for the last 2 year. He is an 8pt his horns go straight up about 20 to 24 inches that was when we pulled in at 5am.

The monster that we have been hunting for four yrs was seen 10 yds from my pop up blind by yours truely. He saw the pop up and then took off. He has a 20 to 22 in. inside spread. I was for sure that nothing was coming from that area since their was shooting going on and the wind was coming from that way. HE WAS WALKING WITH THE WIND!!! wow sorry had to vent 4 yrs.

Opa- you are correct the corn is not my friend at all.

New plan of action is needed so I have corn stalks being put on my blind this morning and then I am going out again tonight.

Oh! one cool thing was I finally saw the beaver that everyone was talking about. He is huge.

Good morning everyone!!
Hillybilly Rooster- Sorry to here about your luck yesterday. Maybe today will be better.
My 15 yr old son shot a big 8 pt last night. I am a proud mom today. It's his first nice buck.
Hope everyone has a great day!!

Well Congrates to your son. See I dont care if I get the big ones I will shoot does for meat my that is what is about when you have kids. When my son moved in with me his first buck was that yr. It is so great to see he enjoys it that beats getting the big one. It is all about the kids when you have them.

Good morning everyone!

What a beautiful week we have had, not bad for November. My nursery coop is almost completely finished. I have a few touch ups to do before I post pictures. I need 4 shutters for my 2 med size windows. I would really like to find some custom wood ones with something carved into them. My aunt has a 100 year old home and her shutters have a cut out of a moon and stars on them. They look so cool.

Sure, I could buy some cheep plastic ones form the hardware but I think some old wood ones would suit my fancy much better. I wish I could find someone to make some and cut a chicken into them. I will have to nose around online and see what I can find.

I got my breeding pens set up last week as well. I bought a beautiful Millie roo at the show Sat. I put him with 3 hens and now just waiting for some eggs :0)

My beautiful black frizzle cochin roo and his 2 ladies have been giving me an egg a day. I have them in the bator and hope they grow. The hens are young so I figure I will hatch a couple batches of eggs before I offer hatching eggs for sale out of this trio.

I also setup a trio of sq silver lakenvelders

One frizzle sq polish hen and a flat feather roo

A pair that I believe to be molted lemon blue cochin bantam (need help on the color with this pair see photo and let me know what you think)

Any guess on color?

A pair of sq black silkies that I just adore. They are both so sweet. Silkies are much more lovable then other chickens their clam ways make them nice pets.

I also have a beautiful pair of sq partridge showgirls. They have given me 5 eggs that are due to hatch on Thanksgiving. I took a peak last night and all are developing well. I am so excited to hatch the showgirls, they are such cool looking birds!

Needless to say turkey day will also be hatching day at my house!!! My kids are so excited!

Wishing everyone a wonderful day:bun

Good Afternoon!

I started training this morning for a half marathon in the spring. Warmed up to MJ's favorite walking lady with a one mile walk. Ran 2 miles, it wasn't too hard

Then lifted weights and a DVD for abdominals and stretching. Feeling my legs now though!

Came home to child #3 being sick in the toliet....still not able to hold anything down. I hope that the rest of us don't get it
