Thanks Opa. I figured they would get larger since this was kind of small, after it was her first. I am hoping for some terra cotta colored ones but after all I do have 4 more wellie girls. I do like the speckles though.
I had my sister over today for our traditional new Years dinner and she laughed at me for saying something about taking a picture of the egg and posting it. She just does not get it!

Briana, crossing fingers for you

Thanks, it sure was a nice surprise.

Well what do you think? I have it next to a regular egg [not sure from who] I like the speckels.

Nice egg! The speckles are cool. I have a mutt pullet that's around 19 weeks that just started laying this week...it's fun getting the little eggs for awhile!

Opa - so sometimes the pattern can change between the eggs of one bird? That's pretty cool...maybe I need some Wellies in my life.

I really like the plumage of the adult birds too.....hmm.......

Caleb, I love my wellies. They are so sweet.

Opa, yes she thinks we are all nuts but she is the one that called her house while she was here to leave a message on her answering machine for her dogs, telling them that they better behave and go to their rooms.

HBH they are about 4 months old. I have read on here though that they take a while to start laying. The Seramas I got at Chickenstock haven't squated for me yet. Those little eggs will be fun.

Opa are you really gonna bring some Wellie chicks. They are beautiful chickens full grown. I might have to get 3 or 4.

YakLady: Wonderful family pictures. Gosh I would love to have kids home again. Thank you for sharing your family with us. And your duck egg WOW that poor lil girl. LOL

HBH: Beautiful egg. I love the speckles.

Opa:
are you going to be hatching come spring? As I would love to get about a dozen Wellsummer chicks for layers. I love my Isa browns but the wellies are so much more striking.

Sarah: So glad you were able to go out for New Years. I stayed home, had a couple cocktails and feel asleep until my cell phone started ringing at 11:30pm. I tried to go out and take a picture of the blue moon but my digital camera doesnt like the dark to much.

Vicki:
Beautiful lil Boston girl. I use to breed and show them. Great dogs and so full of life. Congrats.

Here is a picture of my 9 wk old Dobe girls. Isis and Danu . This was taking new years eve at a friends house just after they had their ears cropped. They are such good puppies, almost house broke and have only been going potty outside for 6 days. Isis the red is gonna be huge like her mother. She is 18 pounds already. She's a handful to pick up and carry outside.

Its 7am and only 6 degrees outside. Bundle up today, you're gonna need it.

Good Morning!

Oospy- cute puppies! and yes it is really cold outside! I hope it warms up some today

Briana- we got a serema at chickenstock from vicki and she started laying last month. Cute little eggs. Not a smart chicken though
hmm.png
She doesn't like going in the coop at night and she really likes the call ducks!

HBH- very pretty egg...maybe we need to increase our variety?!?!

Yak Lady- great pictures! Glad you all had a great time

Well- everyone is still sleeping, except the dog and cats

I got my 5 mile run in on the treadmill. Need to go and get ready for the troops to wake up!

Have a great day everyone and keep warm!

Sarah

Awwww.... They are gorgeous! I love puppies.

Hillbilly Hen.... Congrats on the wellie eggs. I have 2 welsummer girls from Opa. They are laying also. Like Opa says they will get bigger, and change color a little bit. When mine first started laying the speckles were mainly at the top and bottom of egg. Now the speckles are all over the egg. Sometimes, the egg is very dark terracotta color with speckles. Neither girl has missed a day since laying, but their size and color changed over a month or so.

Our BCM girl from Wynette just started laying, and boy does she lay some dark colored eggs. I thought they were the welsummers at first, but at closer inspection I realized it was Roxi laying them. She doesn't lay everyday, and it's one uniform color. No speckles at all. Her eggs are a darker brown.

Forgive me for any weird sentences and spellings. I woke up late this morning, and haven't really had much coffee yet

It sure is cold this morning. That wind chill is a killer. It seems that the charm of having a big snow blower is still working. It's hard to believe that we haven't had a snowfall of sufficent amounts to justify using it. I'm sure if I hadn't bought it the snow would be waist deep.

Carol the Dobes are adorable. Love the look of the bandage hats. I wonder if I could get Granny to make similar hats for my birds to wear. Might be one more method of preventing frostbite.

I will be isolating the various breeds I have about the middle of March. That way I can insure the breed purity of the breeds. I then intend to start hatching and hopefully will have it in full swing by mid May. I think May is the best month for hatching in our area. By then the cold weather is behind us and while heat is still necessary for the brooders it isn't quite as hard to maintain. You won't be disappointed with Welsummers. I think they are some of the prettiest hens that I have. Then when I consider how quiet and calm they are and how beautiful the eggs are they are hard to beat.

Rich I appreciate your generous offer but it wouldn't break my heart for that snoblower to still be a virgin come spring.
