Yet again another cold morning but we've dodged the bullet storm wise. The 30 inches that folks on the east coast got would have tested my snowblower real well but it wouldn't bother me if it never needs to be run.

Good morning everyone. I really hope someone will answer this really newbie question for me. I am letting my broody hatch out some eggs. How many days for chicken eggs and how many would it be for turkey eggs? And when shold I move her from the nest box to a place by herself? Great, maybe I shouldn't of given her an eggs since I seem to know nothing about this!!!!

Good morning, Sam, and my other fellow addicts!

Haven't got the coffee going yet...haven't had time.

I've gotta get a Chantecler rooster loaded up for a customer coming all the way down from Marquette!

Guess what everyone?!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my first Russian Orloff egg yesterday!!!!!!!!!

And it was big for her first egg.

Yet another reason to start up the 2nd incubator.

No she is only sitting on chicken eggs, but I wasn't sure were the 28 came from in my brain. Now I know it is for turkey eggs. Thank you so much, cause I marked 28 days on my calander I would of been really suprised around day 21!!!

Hello all... I have a "adding chicken question" I have 6 Isa Browns that are less than a year old, this spring we want to add 2 more since we have the room...the question, do I add Blue Wheatons because of the colored eggs but only lay every other day but are cool eggs... Or do I get 2 more Isa Browns because they are such great egg layers.

I have researched the adding new chickens so I know I have to be careful....

Hubby and I are perplexed on this...and would greatly appreciate opinions of those that have experience..

Terri, the what to add question is one that drives all of us crazy. Do you want a flock that gives you lots of eggs, or are you interested in a particular egg color. Do you want a variety of colored and tinted eggs or do you want a flock of many feather colors. It's a debate we all have with ourselves and once you think you have it figured out you will see a beautiful bird and the debate starts all over again.

Terri - I like a variety. I'd go with the Blue Wheaten, too. See you'll get two of that kind and then need two of another kind, and then another, and another .......................... See how it happens -- so easily, too.

Native born michigander here, I love the color variety of the eggs. I like the partridge colored and marked chickens best but for the sake of variety, I give the nod to the Americauna for the blue or blue green egg, and the welsummer for the dark terra cotta egg. Best of luck going chicken crazy.
