Thanks all...Americauna it is then. Kind of what I wanted to do but wasn't sure...same with hubby. TSC said they are getting some soon so now I need to figure when to get them so I have enought time to get them outside when it's warm.

I'd get more but since I am in the city but have an acre I can have them because they are 100 ft from any dwelling, they never said how many but I don't want to push it.

Thanks again...

Hey there GR here too I just wanted to let you know that what TSC gets are not Americauna they are EE's
if you want true ones I would order eggs from Shelley or someone that has the real thing not that EE's are bad I have two and love them to death

Hi all - We just lost our favorite Buff Orp. hen to Marek's. This is the second death in the past 6 months, and we are really bummed.

We have a rooster and 5 hens left, but we would really like to get back up to 7-8 hens so that Jayne (our rooster) does not "overuse" the girls. We have two with aprons on as it is due to his constant "treading," causing their back feathers to get damaged.

I would like to get a few sexed chicks (hens only) that have been vaccinated for Marek's so that we don't have to go through that again (or at least it will hopefully improve the chances that we won't), since it seems like our farm has a problem (We know the previous owners had chickens for a while - and the neighbors said they died off). Or another option is to get older hens that may have been exposed but have gotten old enough to be immune, or at least not affected.

The hatcheries that vaccinate have min orders of 10 or so, which is way more than we want. The local hobby hatcheries around here (that we know of) where we can just go pick them up don't vaccinate. Does anybody know of any Michigan, or maybe Ohio hatcheries where we can pick up a just few sexed/vaccinated chicks? Or anyone that sells grown hens?

Thanks,
Natalie/ Scrummycat

I have went through pages and pages of replys in our Michigan area and I didnt really find what I was looking for. I am in North Branch and I am looking for other breeders of Bantam Cochins. We have columbians and I was looking for contacts for Columbians and any other colors that might be found somewhat locally.

To my knowledge, you and I are the only ones in this area with Colombians. Mine are doing great, BTW...we love them dearly.

What other varieties are you looking for? I've got chicks due to hatch the 19th...they'll be BBS and Mottled. I'm going to be Marek's vaccinating the chicks, too.

Hi Natalie!

This spring I'll be ordering some layer pullets (various breeds) from Ideal Poultry. I'm getting them with the sole intent of selling them to folks, such as yourself, who only want a few. The chicks will be Marek's vaccinated. It's probably going to be April before I do this though. If you're interested and patient, just shoot me a pm.

Oh dont really care, lol. He is keeping the Columbians no matter what but........ I have since become addicted to them also. I'd like some blues for sure but not picky. Glad to here they are doing good. I'd love to see picks. My son wanted to keep the one that appeared spotted and I was against it but she is really turning out to look kind neat. She's far from showable but she looks cool. lol.

I'll try to get some pics soon. I've been so busy that I just haven't taken time to do that.

I ended up with 3 roos and 2 hens. I sold one of the roos and kept the best 2. They're REALLY looking nice. The pullets are looking good, too. Colombians will definitely teach you patience, that's for sure! It's just amazing how much they can change between hatch and first molt. I can't wait for these guys to show their true pattern!

Yeah they have changed so much I cant believe it! We have hatched out for 3 years ourselves and I thought we had a pure thing going but every hatch we get at least 1 spotted looking pullet. Not to sure what that's all about. I am glad they are turning out for you. Hopefully they are as friendly as our are.
