It's when you cross a dark brown egg layer, with a blue egg layer. ( that is in VERY simple terms ) Like crossing a maran/welsummer with a blue egg gene type like an americana ( sp) EE, etc. The crossing should result in a layer of olive colored egg. If that makes sense.....

Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

YakLady: EEs can lay olive colored eggs. To actually breed for olive-eggers, you need to cross a dark egg-laying breed (such as Marans) to preferably a blue egg-laying breed (such as true Ameraucana). I'm not positive, but I think you might can cross a dark egg-layer to a green egg layer, too.

You can cross em with an EE who lays a blue egg. My friend has done it. One of my EE's from her ( Sarah) from her lays a bright sky blue egg. My other one Merle lays a blueish, green color. She said I can cross her with my BCM rooster and get olive colored egg. I'm hoping to do that this spring. I can also cross try my olive egger Rooster with Merle, and get olive colored egg.

I may have an olive egger layer now, but gotta wait to see what they lay. Their too young yet.

Ok, off to get my hair trimmed, and rust sucked out of my hair.

Our darn well water has rust in it, and of course it gets deposited right in my hair. It shows up more in my hair then it does Doug's....

From my husband, no ducks or geese. I agree they are really cute when they are little, not as fond of them all grown up though myself. Have been chased to many times by the geese at our local dairy farm. But the kids are working on Dad for the ducks.

Ok all you chicken lovers out there with broody hens.....I have one broody sitting on 6 eggs. Every now and then when I go into check on her she's not on the eggs, but up and about moving around and the eggs are cool. Is this normal or do you think we'll have a failed hatch?

Hustonn our broody almost never got up, she was stubborn. She was also the first I let hatch eggs, so not much for you to go on from me. Good luck though.

It is so nice outside I was just out raking up some spots where the snow is gone. There is not much, we are still all covered with snow here. But the south and west sides up close the the house has melted away. I found some flowers starting to come up. Yeah!! I love it when it is this time of year. Everything starts to grow again and turn green. I know I know.... wet and muddy coming up.

When I had broody hens with nothing under them, they did get up once a day, usually in the afternoon for a short time then back on the nest again, with no eggs...silly chicken! I did remove the hen from the coop and as soon as the door was opened in the afternoon she would be back on the nest.
