Way to go ladies, I need to learn how to make something other than dinner!! Seriously, DH laughs at me when I try to build anything. I "built" a little movable pen for last years chicks so they could get out and eat grass but not get picked on by the older ones, well it fell apart. I don't mean it came loose, I mean it collapsed (not with anyone inside of it) My DH laughed and said, "I'll help you build one next year". So I mentioned at the dinner table. He laughed again and said, "you mean you don't want to use the one you made". What a funny guy!! So I applaud all you ladies out there that can pick up a hammer and know what to do with it!!!

Ok, now you got me thinking....I've built hoop greenhouses before....I'm assuming the frame must be similar.

Maybe that is something I can try.

I'm used to growing out of raised beds, and we ( me and Cass ) made a covered chicken tractor out of an old one I have last summer. We used hoops with netting for the cover, but this year I'm getting different netting for it. It was great for putting our teenaged chickens outside during the day, and the big chickens still couldn't terrorize them. All they could do was give stick eye to each other.

The the netting we attached to the hoop frame was good for keeping hawks from scooping them up, but I wanted a closer mesh. So, I'm on the hunt this year for that.

The snow is almost gone. We still have a few large frozen spots here and there. The bare ground is awful muddy. Some spots we will sink in the mud.

The chickens are enjoying the heck out of it though. I thought puppies were bad with mud.

So mud season is here at my house. I have stocked up on floor mops and supplies, I'm ready......

Hey a question just popped in to my mind. Since I have a dozen wellie eggs coming next week to incubate. Should I put some of our hens eggs in to see it they are fertile? Anyone in my area intersted in some welsummer chicks from our flock?

My TSC had chicks in today... I succumbed and brought six home. Would anyone in the Jackson area be interested in a couple of day old Australorps and an EE? I will sell them for what I paid for them. $2.49 .

Nice meeting sevenchickens today...we now each have 14 muscovy eggs to put in the incubator...in about a half hour. I am very glad that I won't be egg-stressed alone for the next month.
It has been a very long day- I will be glad to crawl into my bed.

New Michigander here!
I'm currently in the northern lower peninsula, halfway between Mackinac and Traverse City, but this May I intend on moving in with my Boyfriend, a little outside of Flint.

If you are in the Flint area, I have a not so important question.

Who's chicken was crossing the road in Clio, mid December?
I recall seeing a small brown chicken dancing around in the middle of the road trying not to get hit by any cars and plenty of cars trying not to hit the misplaced chicken. It was at the intersection of Linden and Vienna when it was caught.
I have seen that a few members here are from the Clio area so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I wanted my BF to stop so I could catch it, but he refused saying that we had no place to keep it, which was true.
I don't know what type of chicken it was or the sex, but it did make for an interesting day where i got to see the chicken cross the road!
