Hi Michiganders!
My name is Karen and I live in South Lyon.....I think somewhere between Yaklady and Opa. The kids brought home a stray chicken, honestly, a couple years ago and we just fell in love with HENrietta......until she started crowing at all hours of the nite and day. Although I have 2 acres, I still have neighbors that I want to continue to have good relationships with so HENry had to go to a friend's farm out in Carlton where he could make himself known all he wants. So of course we had to fill the void by going to the Imlay City swap and took home a silky girl. Well, she was lonely so we went to another swap and got a beautiful mille fleur d'uccle that was still laying fertile eggs and our silky sat on them and only one hatched. We were all so smitten. Then Shelleyb1969 gave us 2 gorgeous little bantam lavendar ameraucanas that literally jump into our arms for loving. It gets worse......then I got myself a lovely EE for my birthday that follows me around like a dog. Keeps getting worse. I went to visit my dad in NJ and his neighbor was selling showgirls so I had to bring home two more of those. Will it ever end? No. Just went and visited Destiny Mike as some of you may know him out of Brighton and he gave us some barred rock and bantam sebright eggs for the broodys to hatch. I need to either buy some more land or find a chickens anonymous meeting.
I am hoping to go to chickenstock and bring the kids....but under no circumstances is anyone to allow me to bring home any more birds! LOL! We enjoy our birds strictly as "pets with benefits" and the kids are enjoying them immensly. I am glad I have found this site to talk chickens and look forward to a great day with other chicken junkies like myself
