I was there today. I don't know what kind of bantams they have , just cute little te-niney chicks. I was also in the Family Farm and Home store in Newaygo today too. I managed not to bring any chicks home today. Family Farm and home is supposed to be getting in some gold laced wyandottes Monday that DH wants. I am planning on sneaking them under my broody RIR if it is not too late. She hatched her one real egg today. She is still guarding the wooden one.

Looks like I'll be making a trip to howell soon, Bev has looking for DE for awhile and can'f find it anywhere local.

Oh well, whats a few hours on the road for the sake of the chickens?

ok, so here's a funny follow up...

Was on call this weekend (covering my service area and for 2 other tech's areas... ) had a call in okemos and decided since I was so close to howell I'd run over and try to find this feed store...

...gee what a mistake that was...

I didnt look the address up, since I didnt think of it till I was in okemos
Bev wasnt home so couldnt look it up for me
I hadnt though to bring my company laptop since I almost never use it, so couldnt even find a wifi hotspot and look it up myself
so...

I decided I had at least a decent chance the place would be either on m-59 or on grand river, so I started driving... I-96 from okemos to the m-59 exit at howell, all the way through town.. cut back up to grand river somewhere east of town and followed it east till I hit brighton, turned around and followed grand river all the back to fowlerville... gave up and went home...

sheesh... all just to find bev some DE.

looked it up when I got home and would NEVER have found it "by chance"... although I did get pretty close to it, I never would have thought to make the few turns I would have had to make to drive by it. oh well, next time I'll be more prepared.

just a side note though... what a depressing trip... it's been many many years since i was last in howell (lived there a few months long ago and loved the area) so many big developments now, huge houses & apartment building and stuff... It's just sad to see such a nice area be ruined like that... and all the farms and small houses basically rotting away because the land has been bought up and nothing done with it.

Looks like everyone went to TSC today. I hit the Lapeer store and got one heck of a bargain. I walked in and said, either you have a bunch of hungry chicks or you have at least 500 in here. I could hear them all the way in the front of the store. The manager looked at me and said, If you want a bunch I'll give you a great deal. She did and I couldnt pass it up. sooooooooo, I came home with 50 more Isa's. Lil stinkers are only about a week old and their wings are already feathered up, I think this was the reason she wanted them gone. So I'll keep the ones I like for my layers and sell the rest.

Tomorrow is the first Sunday Armada Flea Market is open. So looks like Crazy Chicken Fever and I will be there at day break. Wrapped up like eskmos, flashlights in hand checking out all the other livestock and setting up a table of our own. Are we nuts? yea I guess you could say that. Hope my feet dont turn purple like they did when we went to the Montross swap. I said never again would I go that early on such a cold day...LOL

If any of you go, look for a pepsi blue pickup truck that says SS Silverado across the windshield. Da'ta be us.

Stay warm, and enjoy your sunday.

I was at the TSC in Whitmore Lake - they had all their chickens and ducks for 1/2 off. I left with a grand total of ZERO! Have my ducklings coming on Tuesday from Metzer's and my BO broody has been sitting on 9 eggs which are due to hatch in 11 days.

That should keep my addiction in check, for a while anyway.

Do any of those eggs under that broody happen to get LF Cochins? Id love to hatch some of your eggs or get some chicks from you. Mine have laid 3 this week and all are clear. So hopefully next week my Roo with get with the program. I threatened today to pluck all his plume feathers if he dont get busy!! Just so the hens can laugh at him for showing his skinny legs. LOL

Mark, you were real close to my house. I live just a 1/4 miles south of Grand River to bad you couldn't have stopped by. Just in case your wife is reading this I won't say anything about the four laying bantam hens that I want 50# of layer pellet for.

Dont know if any of you remember last April 16th, but we had 8" of very wet snow fall that day here ...it was so wet and heavy, I broke the metal handle off a new snow shovel. So flurries as like today.. are nothing compaired to last year. I'll take a few more, then let it SHINE please.

My face is pretty tan already. Dont know if its sun or wind burn thats done it? But boy am I sore after being outside in that wind all day today and yesterday.

About time to hit the hay, have to be up at 4am to go freeze at the flea market. Wish us luck. LOL If you read in the Detroit News on Sunday, that there were 2 woman that were found frozen, with chicken popsicles, one tall and one short, that would be us.

Sure is a little brisk this morning. Ooopsy better have worn some long handled drawers if she sitting out side for very long.

Good Morning All! Welcome to Winter! I worked through Summer on Thursday but the good news is, I work all week so summer should be back full swing.
It has been a few years but I have a picture of my dad and daughter next to a big snow man they made on April 26th. My dad had come up here to visit and we got hit with a huge snow storm. So...I guess we are still lucky.

I checked and Mama Turken has kept her babies safe all night- now I get to relax about that.

I need some ideas though. I have a problem with my neighbor dog that is destroying my peace and tranquility and I cant even stand being outside anymore. He barks and barks and barks through the fence. He is a large fox hound and I do indeed have a privacy fence. It is the kind of privacy fence though that is shadow-boxed so if you look sideways you can see through it. I have a big ugly blue tarp up on part of the chicken yard so he cant see through there-but for the rest of my yard he continually barks at the chickens, and me, at my dogs, at the air.... It is a monotone ROOOr ROOOR ROOOOR ROOOOR all day every day non stop through the fence.
I cant talk to them because my husband has been there neighbors for 30 years, and they would never ever complain about my chickens- which are illegal- and they come to their back door periodically and say, "Charlie! (dogs name)" but when the dog ignores them, they go back inside their house.

He was digging up under the fence and causing rose bush damage on my side and huge holes that the chickens could walk under, so I dug the entire fence line and stapled hardware cloth to the bottom of the fence and buried it so he cant do that any longer (was reallly awful listening to ROOR ROOR ROOOR ROOOR the entire time).

Serioulsy, summer isn't even here yet and I cant imagine being out there at all listening to him. I have fantasized about zapping him with a cattle prod but aside from that , do you have any suggestions?
