good morning backyarders. A glorious day to you all.

Sorry to hear about the silkie. The kids especially get so attached to these little buggers. Hugs.

Freebie: best of luck on your incubation attempt. Mine are going in tomorrow. We made a brooder of things from around the house. Didn't have to buy a thing. It is temp testing today before the BO hatching eggs go in that a friend gave me. Very exciting!

here is a pick of our latest adoption, Chloe is a 3 day old Nankin.

Iluvcks Im so very sorry for your loss. And poor Autumn to have to find her like that. When I first got into chickens and lost a couple and could not figure out why they died. It drove me nuts. Chickens do some very foolish things sometimes. All we can do is try to keep them safe.

CrazyChickenFever and I will be at Imlay on Saturday. We should all meet up for lunch. Opa mentioned he might come too. I invited some people that we saw at Armada Flea Market yesterday also. Lets keep our fingers crossed that its not cold as that takes all the fun out of it. My body didnt thaw out yesterday until I crawled into bed and took a 2 hour nap. Retired life is awesome LOL

Poor Luna. It is possible that one of the drakes was trying to mate with her. They push their duck hens under the water when mating, which is fine for a duck, but not so good for a chicken and drakes can be pretty aggressive breeders, not caring if it is a hen, duck, goose, whatever! Sorry to hear of your loss though, especially for your daughter, that is the worst part.

Aww... so sorry for the silkie! And so sad that Autum found her like that.
Kristin and I plan on going to Imaly. Always fun to just get out and do something besides clean animal poop! Hope to be able to meet up with you all for lunch again.

Thank you all for the kind words. This is our first loss, so I think it just compounds the saddness. And she was so cute.

Vicki both of my ducks are girls. Whats really sad is I may have heard the whole thing and didnt relieze it. Right before we left to meet our friends I was in the bathroom. The run is less that 10 feet from that window. The ducks were freaking out. They never quack like that unless they want to go to bed in the garage around 7pm. They stand at the gate and quack so I will let them out and the waddle accross the driveway and go to bed in the garage. Or treat time. But they were out there quacking like crazy. I asked DH if they all had fresh water, he said yes. I dismissed it and we left. By the time Autum found her 3 hrs later she was stiff. I'm sure the ducks were upset because she was in their pool. I'm so disgusted that I didn't listen to that voice in my head that said something was wrong.

Luna was the white one

iluvcks, sorry to hear about the poor chick... always hard when you're a kid and find a pet that way.

I just wanted to have some water foul to hang around. I've got a great pond that has a few canadian geese come n go, but I love watching birds out on the water. I contacted Guitartist about her geese she wants to rehome. (she's very talented btw

). I wouldn't mind finding a gander for the Embden goose if anyone can keep their eyes open for me!

I'm still planning on going to chicken stock! I am holding out for a few silkies!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hello everyone!

I couldn't believe the weather this weekend! Got the winter coat back out

I am working on convincing the director of the Music Man that one song needs chickens on the stage
smile.png
I have it figured out, just have to wait and see if he will let me 'humor' him on our trained livestock. He would be the first to have adult chickens to come on and off stage on cue. My trick will be hungry hens (just 3) and cat food (their favorite treat).

Off to get the troops ready for lunch then off to the theatre to hang wallpaper that is books on a bookshelf for the library scene. Then one more thing checked off my list (which is still quite long!)

Glad to hear lots of folks were able to work outside and get some coop work done. I got the baby chicks pens cleaned this morning. Everyone else is doing good.

Hey- is anyone going to the Poultry show in Ohio this weekend? My daughter is going and taking 5 enteries. 4 chickens all bantam and one of her sisters call ducks.

Have a great afternoon!

Sarah

Awww...thanks SillyChicken

I was checking out your Facebook page.... very nice work
smile.png

I sent you some pics via email of the geese. And I sent you an email with answers to your questions

I would definitely put up some kind of secure sleeping pen.... maybe just a big dog house with a lockable door.... or just herd them back and forth to the pond until they get the idea. During the day they should be fine out on the water..... boy will they LOOOVE that! Right now all they get is a kiddie pond

I've been working on a larger fish pond... but didn't get done last year in time for them to enjoy it....it's still only 1/2 done and no where as big as your pond

Thanks! I liked that web site so much I got an account there too... same art work though.

I have a few dog houses I could convert for the geese, and I have the large kennel run set up for the chickens. There would also be enough room for them with the chickens too.

I'll check my email. Thanks!

Just had to add what my co-worker in Washington state sent me for my birthday... She's such a sweetie!
