For ice cream it is coffee ice cream. State drink is coffee milk. We have a name for folks from Mass ( They have a name for us also) Especially the drivers from Mass, they are called Massholes. Soda is soda.

I also know how to start a good bar fight in Providence......Walk in and ask where P Town is. That will rile things up.

Oh, and a cart at the grocery store is called a carriage. Doug and I go a few rounds with that one.

I never understood how in the world you could get lost in RI.

Yeah, it's about 45/50 minutes from the end near connecticut to the end near Massachusetts. BUT this time of the year it's MUCH longer because of the beach traffic. It would be more like a couple hours. From Providence ( That's about mid point in RI) to Boston it's about a 45 minute ride. Sometimes less depending on traffic.

I know New England very well. From Connecticut to Maine. I can get from one end to the other with no map at all. That was one of the reasons I was an oddball to them. I traveled, and never really stayed in one place.

I was willing to go out and explore.

For all those in the area or up for a road trip, the Eaton County fair begins July 12-17 and our Small Animal Sale is the 17 at 2 pm, lots of good stuff there!! Come support the kids!! I know kids from my club will have African geese, Freedom Rangers, Asils & Florida White meat pens plus there will be much, much more there! I can probably get free passes in for those wanting to attend the sale

I'm jealous, no rain here. We need it, but my DH also need to go spray the orchard. The mosquitoes are thick around here.

I have the north wall of my coop done, going to work on another wall tomorrow while my DH is at the Farmer's Market. We are officially taking care of the chickens, but they are not coming home until the coop is finished.

With any luck, I will have most of another wall done tomorrow. I measured out some windows and a door at the local restore today. should only cost $30 for 5 windows and a human door. I am getting so excited.

Today sure was tough, and tomorrow doesn't sound much better. It's hard to believe the amount of water my birds are going through. I've read other threads where folks are loosing birds to the heat. I've got fans in the large fowl coop that are thermostatically controlled so hopefully it won't be too bad for them in there. I though egg production would be down due to the heat but I got 14 from the 20 LFs. Bantams were down but I got a vorwerk sitting on eggs and having just moved the others I expected them to be down. I propped the nest box open slightly to hopefully allow some of the heat to dissipate from over the broody but I don't know of much more I can do. Heck it's hot enough that the eggs could hatch without a hen to sit on them.

Our chickens have been ok so far. They have been hanging under the pine trees during the worst part of the day. We have waterers out in various shady places. We did have to put a cover over the old bachelor pad for the bantams. It's a temporary cover until we can find more permanent netting. They seemed to enjoy the run better now.

I have a silkie trying to hatch golf balls again, so I have been going outside and removing her from the nest so she doesn't get too hot. She'll be going back into the broody buster soon.

We released the young welsummer and EE's with the big flock last week, and they are enjoying their freedom to roam. They found a nice patch of pine trees to call their own.

The welsummers are very curious, and follow the rabbits around. They are funny to watch.

Hopefully, we get some rain soon to cool things off a little.

I have to agree with Bluemoon, the welsummers are very entertaining, and athletic. The little rooster I got from Vicki2x2 is very quick, he cuts around corners and runs circles around the large cochins who are left clumsily spinning trying to keep an eye on him.

We've had a small murder of crows around here, they are trying to get the duck food, all I have heard in the morning has been CAW CAW CAW QUACK QUACK CAW CAW CAW QUACK QUAACCCKKKKKKK QUACKKK!

Stay cool, y'all

My chickens are doing all right. We live in a forest and the chickens are at the edge of it. They have shade all day long and there are 2 waterers in each run. Aren't we supposed to get some thunderstorms soon? We could use it.

At least no one from the Arizona and/or Texas threads are on here, calling us wimps for complaining about the low 90s!

If you trust the Weather Site, they are saying 100% chance of thunderstorm today around 2pm for my area, Clare. We could use some rain.

My birds are doing fine, they have some shade and the waterers are being kept full.

I am still not complaining about the weather, cause last summer we did not have hardly any warm days over 80 degrees.

man is it hot out there!

I got my first egg yesterday! Darn tiny little thing, hope thats not going to be the normal size! Do the eggs get bigger as the bird matures? They're Faverolles, supposed to be standard size.

I started out with 6 roosters... 5 from one order 1 from a second.... the first 5 all had bad knees, they pop out to the side. 4 of them went to freezer camp and the remaining older roo I thought may be ok, developed the same problem...... so I'm inclined to think this was a genetic issue from the hatchery. So, now I have to kill that rooster too. VERY disappointed in the quality of birds from Ideal Poultry... The feather colors are off I have a reversed colored, brown and black hen....... WTH? ........and the leg issues....... even the egg color is brown and I thought they were supposed to be creamy/whitish colored. I could be wrong... but still very disappointed.

So..... how is everyone doing? Keeping cool I hope, we should be getting some rain tomorrow and Friday, so hopefully it'll cool off a bit.

I was so excited this last weekend we finally got some work done on my kennel. I have a small, 3 bay kennel where I was breeding my dogs. I've since stopped breeding... but, still have 4 dogs to care for.

I have a raised bathtub in the kennel for washing the dogs, but we never put up a surround or finished the plumbing... well that finally got started last weekend. Most of the surround is up and paneling finished on the rest of the walls. Just have to run the pluming into the kennel (it's been run up to the outside of the kennel in the garage) and set up the drainage and secure the cabinets/counter, install the sink and faucet. Hopefully that will get finished this weekend!

I have to say that was one good thing about working at lowes for a while... I got some very good deals on alot of stuff!
