It has been a little while since I posted and I am grateful and humbled by those who checked on me. Summer certainly flew by and yesterday morning sure was a reminded of what we have in store.
I've gotten one of those summer colds that kick ones butt so bad. Yesterday I thought I was feeling too sick to die but today is much better.

Hey Sam! I was thinking as I was running the dogs this morning that I was going to call you and see if you were on vacation! Glad to hear you're on the upswing! We've gotten 3 wellie eggs in the past week - don't know if you saw the post or not....take care!
Good news is FINALLY the little calls are hanging out with the big cayugas in the duck pond!!!
It's sooo cute! Sadie still tries to go near them I think in a motherly way and they're still a little bit leery, but they don't run off anymore!!
Bad news is when Aric let everyone out this morning he found one of the 3 month (?) old aracaunas dead under one of the laying boxes. No injuries at all, just dead
No clue on that one but it's still sad! I hope it's not something that spreads to the rest of my gang!!
Well more rain today so not much can be done outside. Hope everyone has a good day!!
Hey Cricket! Are you the one that took my Ameraucana Roo? Met you at Eastwood Town Center? Was just wondering if you still have him and how he's doing?
Weather is suppose to clear up but so far we're still heavy on the clouds and had some rain. Hope you all have a nice Labor Day!

Yes I am! I've been looking for you! I wanted to write you an email or give you a call but I lost your number. ugh. He is doing VERY well! He crows very nicely and loves his ladies! He's going to be a daddy in a few weeks also! BTW, I tried the macNcheese thing and he won't eat treats, it's SO weird! No mac n cheese, cheese, cucumbers or watermelon! He takes a little bite of the food and calls the ladies over to eat and just watches them. He's very protective of the hens and throws a fit when they squabble. It's adorable! You found him an excellent home and he's very happy here.
You don't know how happy that makes me! Most of the roosters end up on the table, and I'm so glad he found a good home! What a good rooster, calling the girls to eat the treats!! I thought I saved your number, but guess I didn't. Thank you for taking him!
I went out to check on the chooks at 9 pm yesterday, and guess who was in the trap? That's right.
Would you like to guess who went for a swim in our pond after I tied a rope to the trap? That's right.
Normally, I would not do such a thing to an animal, but I flashed in my mind the memories of all the chickens she killed, their personalities, their quirks, and all the funny, goofy, annoying (but forgivable) things they did. Then I thought about the way they died; chased down, viciously brutalized, stricken with panic, no hope of escape.
That made it very easy.
And yes, I did say she. I'm going to have traps out for the next three weeks, seeing if there are other members of her family I should be concerned about. But the main perpetrator is gone. I even took the carcass out to pen and showed it to the chooks. Squeaker freaked when he saw it, but perked up as he watched me drop the carcass on the ground, kick it, etc. So now they know that it's dead, and they're behavior is starting to show it. They're getting bored being in the coop all day, but I plan to keep them in there for at least a week as a precaution.
My broody hen seems to like being in the house. She's so focused on her duty that she barely makes a sound; my dad has to check on her every once in a while just to assure himself that she's not dead. Tomorrow is day 19, so we'll see if any of her egglings hatch out real soon.
