I am so sorry to hear about your roo. I hope he comes back.
I hope everyone is good, chickens and all.
Still no eggs from our girls but we love 'em anyway!

LOL!

Wish I had known that earlier today. The doe I got was SOOOO fat!

I had my old Cane Corso, Delta, track the deer down. She loved her fresh liver treat!

(I had the photo up but thought others my object.)

We worked on a hutch for the rabbits today... This is what we have so far.

I don't object. In fact I've been in the middle of the fun with the neighbor. Seems all the deer are FULL of fat this year!! It was a great pic, glad I got to see it! We were going to go hunting but didn't have anywhere to go. I grew up with hunting in my life since I was 3 or 4. Not because my parents did it but my brother in law (my sisters are 13 and 18 yrs older) had acres of land their ranch was on.

Well, thanks for sharing the photo!

Well, the drought has finally started pushing the Coyotes out of their comfort zone and into ours. No losses yet, but I fear "yet" is a key part of that phrase if we don't get some substantial precipitation soon. They're getting closer and closer; at first it was by the week, now by the day. There was a big old male in the backyard this morning. My dogs have gotten lazy and comfortable in their "old age" and won't be happy when I kick them out for more than 10 minutes tonight and make them actually work for their "room and board" again rather than running out to go to the restroom and running right back in to their soft, warm beds.

The geese fight tooth and nail about going in at night though and I've got three new pigs out here -- two of which are only 20-30 lbs -- so they're going to have to earn their keep.

I hope everyone is well. I can't believe it's Thanksgiving week already. I think I'm going to make up some custard pies this year to go along with the usual; we certainly have plenty of eggs for it. I am actually thinking custard pies may just be the baked good gift of the year around here for the rest of the holiday season.

Celia -- We're getting 1- 3 pullet eggs a day now out of the 5 brahma ladies here so they're picking up the pace. My mom got one Brahma from us Friday night and her's hasn't laid yet either though so you're not alone (that she can tell anyway). Maybe you need to give your freeloaders the "eggs or else!" talk. Just don't expect them to believe you.

Jen -- The black hen is definitely a BA.

Congrats on your deals.

I was admiring your Cane Corso on the farm dog thread and have been meaning to ask; did you find them from a breeder here in MI or did you have to travel/have them shipped in?

We're not ready for another dog yet, but our two are getting older and eventually will have to be replaced. The Cane Corso is on our list of "maybe" breeds.

Olive Hill........ where to begin.
My first CC, Kaine, came from a breeder in Colorado. I would buy from her again!! (don't let distance bother you when getting one of these dogs .. too many bad breeders our there, when you're ready, we should talk!)

Kaine was the best dog (cc) I ever had. He was extremely smart and loyal. He was protection trained and my security blanket! He was the first CC in the US to get a TT certification, a CD and a BH and he was the first working dog of the year in 2000 for the breed club. He was my stud dog... He was 10 when we had to put him down (on mothers day of all days) I still suffer the loss.

The other from one I got from a friend in MI (she is no longer breeding). Bruna is 9 yrs old, a good dog, also very smart. But she was a bit sharp and dog aggressive. (to certain dogs) She is an excellent guard dog and very obedient. I had one litter with her and Kaine, and the pups temperaments were super.

I have another CC named Bella, she's 5 yrs old. I can never get a good photo of her.... she is a pup from the Kaine/Bruna litter. She is a very quick learner and has the sweetest temperament. I was going to do competition obedience with her but she was injured in both her knees and after surgery etc... she cannot sit properly.

The one in the photo I posted, Delta, she's also 9 yrs old, and is from an old Italian blood line and was a gift. This person I wouldn't actually buy one from and have lost contact with him. Delta suffered severe Grand Mal Seizures, we almost lost her on the last episode. She wasn't coming out of it and had suffered brain damage from being unable to breath for too long. The vet put her in a deep sleep for 24 hours.... when she came out she had to be re house broken etc... she is and always has been a very sweet dog.

The last dog we have is a mastiff mix, with a little CC in there. Gino is 3 yrs old. He's a good dog that was turned in because the owners couldn't handle him. We fostered him for CC rescue, and decided he had to stay. Gino will pull a riding cart (I can't ride in it because it needs some work) he does a good job pulling it around.

I will get another CC some day after the two older girls have passed.

Thanks for the info, SillyChicken. Distance doesn't bother me as long as I am confident of the quality of what will arrive on that plane; like you said too many bad breeders out there -- and that applies to all breeds, unfortunately. Right now our two working dogs (though I use the word working loosely at this point... LOL!) are 6 and 9 so they've got a few years left at least, but realistically I do know they'll need to be replaced so have been keeping a mental list of breeds we might be interested in when that time comes. The Cane Corso is definitely near the top of my list. I want something large to giant in size, obedient, loyal, protective in general but accepting of visitors when we are, powerful, low shedding/requiring little grooming maintenance, capable of predator management... so far everything I read on the Cane Corso points towards it being almost, if not entirely, ideal for us. I've run across a couple of Castleguard's pictures and articles in my searches on the breed. I'll definitely keep them in mind.

A good CC is all that. They do require a lot of work in socializing and you cannot be afraid to assert your self with these guys, they'll test you!
If you contact Shauna @ CG, tell her I sent you. (I don't get nothing for that btw!)

Oh boy... I cut my finger when cleaning out my deer and it may be either developing an infection or I'm having a blood mixing reaction... my finger and hand are all sore, swollen and itchy. I took a benedryl.......... hope it's nothing and goes away on it's own!

Anyone know of a good poultry vet around the Mason area? I was thinking MSU but I remember the girl at Family Farm saying there were two around here somewhere, I just don't remember their names!! Poor turkeys.

Cricket -- What's wrong with your turkeys? I scanned the turkey and emergency sections but didn't see any posts.

Silly -- I emailed Shauna.
